Today in opponent attrition: UDFG edition - BostonCard - 01-25-2016

Luatua basically played mop-up duty for ND, so probably not a big loss for them.  Looking at their receiving tallies, Jones was the most targeted tight end (13 receptions. I believe we were hard after Smythe who also played mostly garbage time.  In fact, last year, at least, their tight end position wasn't especially used (19 total receptions).

Still, with Fuller gone, that leaves really only Torii Hunter with any significant experience catching passes, and no tight ends with much pass catching experience.

Smythe was starter, but went down early to injury.

Ah thanks; that makes sense.  Still, Smythe has 4 career receptions for 25 yards.

Smythe had one catch vs Texas in their opener, one vs UVa then got injured, and came back to start and have one catch in the bowl game vs Ohio State. He'd already red-shirted so there was no reason to hold him out of the bowl - like Eric Cotton for us.

Certainly he doesn't have much experience catching the ball. My impression is that the Domers are fairly high on him.
