OT: a clever, succinct and poignant public service (?) message - Mike - 01-31-2016

I came across this minute-long clip in my NYTimes email. Very well made and worth your time (despite the commercial that precedes it).

We should see this on the Super Bowl.

It would be awesome to see that, but it doesn't quite fit the image the NFL wants to project, does it?

Yeah, very nice ad and a really nice use of Michael Giacchino's Carl and Ellie's Theme from "Up."

Yes, please consider donating your organs.  And if you are an organ donor, make sure that your family members know of your wishes.  Even more important than filling out a card, your medical decision makers would be the ones talking to your doctors and UNOS should you die and would be the ones to agree to your organs being donated.  Thus, it is absolutely vital that they know.

The video is beautiful and everything, but being over 60 disqualifies you from being a liver donor.

So I guess I still have a few years to take up motorcycle racing and maximizing the value of my organs.

The criteria for organ donation are loosening.

Absolute contraindications
Also, I found this poignant story of a mother who lost her 7-year-old son, but was able to listen to his heartbeat in a 4-year-old transplant recipients.

Organ donation is such an obvious thing to do.  Why not?  Although I'm sure I'm missing something, I know of no religious belief it violates.  My wife and I plan to be cremated, in 2059.  If there is a God I trust he cares more for my soul than my 113 year old body.  My wife's, of course, would be considerably younger :). When our youngest grandchild voiced concerns (she was 7) I told her she could have my liver.  "I hate liver!  Eeeeeww."

Kudos to you if your liver is still in good shape. (How did you survive LSJUMB?) I know mine won't be any good to anyone by the time I'm gone, given what I'm subjecting it to...  :P
(but yes, I did check the box on my driver's license so I'm a donor)

Damn you Mike.  You just made me cry at work.  I'm going home now to hug my dog.

Cheers,
Pete F.

I'm glad that work firewalls video streaming services (for the first time) so that I don't have to have my heartstrings pulled in the same manner that everyone else's have apparently been pulled...
