I wish I hadn't looked - BostonCard - 02-13-2016

But MBB is leading Oregon 30-26 with about a minute left in the first half.  Now i am just going to be disappointed at the end.

Now I'm glad I looked, lol.

The lid is off the basket for our 3-pt shots. (6-8)
Quite the opposite for our 2-pt attempts. (5-17)*
*At least according to the stats here: https://sports.yahoo.com/ncaab/oregon-ducks-stanford-cardinal-201602130545/

We won!

No sh*t.  I'm very happy for the team.

Well done team! Love the effort.

First Scalia dies, now we beat a projected No. 2 seed in the bracket? This is sure shaping up to be an unpredictable weekend... Congrats to our team!

Almost let it slip away at the end, but they hung on to win. They clearly outplayed the #11 team in the nation all game. Where was this against OSU?  Hope they can bottle it and keep it going.

Re: I wish I hadn't looked - JJJ - 02-13-2016

Great effort against a very talented team! I know this experience will help them in future games that go down to the wire. And I appreciated Montgomery's color as well.

Thankful that:
1) UO didn't use their end-of-game press earlier
2) Humphrey's final block wasn't called a foul
3) We can rise up against good teams (not just play down to, or below, the level of the competition).

Not to discount our win last night, but why can't Pac-12 teams travel? Arizona is the only team above .500 in away games (5-3) in the entire league. And that includes any potential cupcakes during the pre-conference time. Overall, we're 10-5 at home and 1-5 away. Also crazy that we've managed to produce a schedule where by mid-February we've played 75% of our games at home. (and it suggests we'd be even worse if we were exposed by having to play more away games...)

Basketball reminds me of football under Wiggin, where we were pretty mediocre overall, but every once in a while we would rise up and smite someone good, like Ohio State or Oklahoma (or Washington when they were ranked #1). You are happy for the victory, but you can't help wondering why we can't do it more often.

Exactly.  The boys played their hearts out last night, and more often than not they did so as a team and not a collection of individuals.  Leaves me wondering a) where this team has been all year, and b) can they back it up.  A great win, but like the Sweet 16 it's one (two) great games amidst a season of inconsistency & mediocrity.  Let's see if they can win their next couple of games.  Remember that this team's best conference winning streak is one.

I'm probably the only Sweet 16 truther on here, but I still don't think that was a terribly impressive run. Joel Embiid was the best player in the country that year, and Kansas was missing him. The true colors of Dawkins's coaching were shown against Dayton, in which the team got blown out by some mid-major who couldn't guard Nastic.

I'm with you WIM, but Kansas even without Embid was still the better team on paper.  That week was two well-played games after several mediocre to bad ones including barely beating a bottom-feeder WSU team in game 1 of the conf tournament and being embarrassed by UCLA.  The team was slightly better than previous ones because they got a bid where others have failed but deserved its #10 seed that year.  AFAIC, it was a slightly above average Dawkins season.

Re: I wish I hadn't looked - Viking_Guy - 02-14-2016

The truly damning thing about the Sweet 16 run?  That team had 3 NBA draft picks and Stanford's all-time leading scorer.

It was the only time they made the NCAA tournament.

Watching the Oregon game, the sad thing was that they replayed Stanford v Wake Forest from 1998 prior to the game, when an outmanned but better-coached and prepared Cardinal team knocked out one of the best players ever in Tim Duncan.

Then Mon.ty was the commentator on the game.

Sigh.
