Harbaugh is a really good recruiter.

The end result is not surprising, but the timing, i.e., this early is surprising.

Commitments this early have a way of changing.
Not making a prediction, just saying...

Quarterbacks often commit early.

Also, Stanford did not offer, so although I'd love to flip him to Palo Alto it's not likely to happen. Michigan has a great coach esp for QBs, and it's a great place to get an education too.
I just wanna see him play against our boys in the Big House.

Recruiting must be a difficult balancing act, especially when recruiting younger siblings of current or former players. And it can only be compounded when you have a parent who is a former player with whom the coach probably has a personal relationship. I wonder what the conversations between Shaw and the McAffreys has been regarding Dylan's recruitment. Hopefully they're all very mature and able to be dispassionate, given that Ed was a professional athlete, but I've heard of other former players who are not so easy going about such things.
Of course, UM is not chopped liver, so maybe Dylan and parents are more than happy to jump on the Good Ship Harbaugh and have no hard feelings.

Yeah this one doesn't hurt much he's going to a good place. Connor Murphy going to the University of Seventeenth Choice is another matter entirely...

Stanford rated 2 QB's in the Class of 2017 higher than Dylan so they offered both of them and not Dylan. Simple as that.

Some thoughts from an old fart, who has children aged 18 and 23...
Kids are different. Some like Stanford, some don't. Some can get into Stanford, some can't. Neither of my children wanted to go to Stanford, some children do.
Get over it!

Pretty much. I'd call it a business decision, except that strictly speaking, business might have been better with a brothers-on-a-team story.

Davis Mills would be my preference maybe even above DMac.

Same. Mine are 24 and 20. Couldn't get them to apply to Stanford when they were early accepted by Princeton. They have six immediate relatives who are Stanford alumni, but they wanted to be back East.

Parents seem pretty happy with the outcome:
Quote:Lisa and I are very proud of of our son Dylan whose hard work has resulted in his committing to play college football at the University of Michigan. The funny story about the picture of mom and dad in Michigan gear a few years back was we went to the Final Four but without our alma mater Stanford playing we chose to cheer for Michigan. Hope we held on to those shirts!

??? Won't happen. They're not on our schedule.
Maybe play against our boys in the Rose Bowl?
