Jeff Wulbrun, according to Andy Drukarev's tweet from last night:

need clarification Bobbk... -

McNalk's rumor posted on the Bootleg indicated he was named as an assistant...
but it failed to indicate if a real assistant in the sense of O'Toole, Schrage, and the other guy (Townes???), or if it was the Basketball Operations Assistant, LaMere
BIG difference...
if LaMere's replacement, Great. All in favor.
if a real assistant, WTF????
Re: MBB 3rd assistant -

3 assistants:Â Wulbrun from UAB, Cohen from Vandy, no clue if he was out of a job with a new coach coming in, and Pruitt from Santa Clara, or out looking since they have a new coach.Â

So, nobody with prior ties to Stanford?

Prior Stanford experience?... nada... so far -

depends on if Pruitt fills the Operations slot replacing Lamere, or an actual coach replacing one of O'Toole/Schrage/Payne (was wrong above on Towne, was Payne).
if Pruitt only replacing LaMere, might still be opportunity for a 'Stanford-Experience' guy as a real Assistant
the official announcement on staff will reveal the truth

Well Pruitt who I strongly believe is a coach given all the tweets is married to a former director of operations and coach at Stanford

I think Haase is making a big mistake not putting at least one former Stanford player or coach on his staff. I hope he can course correct after the first year or two. I really think this is essential to not only recruiting but rebuilding the fan base.

To a first approximation, I am inclined to agree with you. However, I will say that the first through fifth most important things for rebuilding the fan base are wins. Nobody will care that we have Raveno on staff if we have a 15-win season next year; likewise, everyone will be be perfectly happy with Wulburn, Pruitt, and Cohen if we have 25-wins and a sweet sixteen appearance.
But yeah, I was kind of hoping Raveno would be part of the staff.

not sure if Reveno would want to be an assistant coach

Pruitt is married to a former Stanford track and field coach. I think it's safe to say that he "gets" Stanford and understands the recruiting obstacles. And I'd question whether any fans who hold the staff's lack of playing experience in a Stanford uniform against them are really fans at all.

and we have ours...
if you think his wife a former operations assistant to Women's T&F (and apparently not all that great because... NO LONGER AT STANFORD, and now at Castilleja girl's school) gives him sought after 'Stanford experience or connection'... you are simply dead wrong
greatest stretch I have ever come across... here or on the Bootleg... to date
that said, it is in fact Haase's choice to make and risk to take... and apparently he's made it
onward

They may not be fans today but they may become fans tomorrow. I know it's on the margin but right now Maples needs as many filled seats as it can possibly get, and I think it needs someone who can more easily reach out to the student body. Sixth Man in particular needs all the help it can get.

The narcissism and condescension in this post is sickening. First of all, as BobK alluded to in two separate posts, Pruitt's wife coached and recruited for Stanford's track team. She filled these roles after serving as the program's director of operations. A simple Google search will reveal that she also worked in Stanford's
"compliance office with an emphasis on recruiting." I would guess that in holding the latter position for two years the topic of recruiting at Stanford may have come up in conversation at the Pruitt dinner table a time or two. But who knows, maybe the topic never came up at all.
What I know for a fact is that your diatribe suggesting that she wasn't all that great because she's no longer at Stanford is disgusting! I don't know what an assistant track coach at Stanford earns nor do I know what the director of athletics at the Castilleja School earns. I also don't know what the Pruitts' family situation is and whether it had any impact on her move. Maybe you're right - maybe Ms. Pruitt couldn't coach distance runners how to avoid heel striking and so was relieved of her duties. Regardless of the reason for her leaving Stanford, she should be free from the type of vile attack you have already unleashed.
I was under the impression that personal attacks, much less ones directed at members of the Stanford Family, were out of bounds on this board. Apparently I was mistaken.

I guess I don't really understand the basis for us outsiders second-guessing his decisions at this point when we know
absolutely nothing about why he made them. Haase has been around the game for a while and I would assume that he knows what he is doing and wants in terms of assistants. He is assembling a staff, not a collection of individuals. I can't imagine a reason why he would prefer
not to hire someone with Stanford experience, given its obvious advantages. But probably more important in his eyes is other aspects of each individual: who he feels comfortable working with (they spend a lot of time together), who brings skills and attributes that are complementary to himself and the rest of his staff, who will add things to the team that the previous staff did not, etc.

They also have a young child.
People (particularly women) make career choices as parents of young children. She may have been looking for part-time work. She may have been trying to avoid travel. I don't think I have enough evidence to suggest that she is "not all that great".
I wish the Pruitt family happiness. I wish coach Pruitt and everyone involved in the basketball program success on the court.
When you wear a
S I cheer for you.

For my part, if I implied that the failure to hire a Stanford-basketball-connected assistant was a make-or-break deal, I apologize. I think, general speaking, that's a better way to go: Stanford admissions can be a thorny path for the unfamiliar, and it's almost always better to have a thread of continuity in recruiting. But failure to go in that direction is not inexorably a fatal mistake, and oldalum is correct, we don't really know what happened. Maybe Haase tried for a Stanford connection but couldn't find one available. It's always possible that Haase is taking advice from 76lsjumb, but I don't think we should jump to that conclusion without evidence.
We'll have to wait and see how this plays out, but we know that this was a significant mistake on Dawkins' part that he only addressed once with Mad Dog and only for one year - by then most of the damage had already been done. I think it was in part ego on Dawkins' part that he could get Stanford on his own and I do worry that Haase may be heading down the same path.
I'm concerned and I do think it's a mistake. I hope I'm wrong, or that if I'm right then Haase makes a course correction quickly (i.e., next year). It's also that several quality former players with both head and assistant coaching experience were available.
