Slide, I must reply not as a representative of the grammar police, but as a supporter of correct taxonomy.  When I first read the subject heading, I thought you were referring to the Miami Marlins.  Yes, there's a great deal of controversy regarding both the Marlins owner and the local politicians.  For those of you who are not baseball fans, the Miami nee Florida Marlins just opened up a new stadium last year.  Its construction costs were $634 million, of which Miami-Dade County paid $376 million and the City of Miami $132 million.  The ire stems over owner Jeff Loria's promise to keep a $100 million payroll for a competitive team if the stadium were built.  It was, and Loria then sliced the team's salaries to $32 million, the second lowest in the majors.  The second problem is the financing.  Since it's primarily driven by bonds, the total cost to retire that debt over 40 years will be $2.4 billion!

I'm sure the anger over the expenses of Marlins Park played no small role in the decision not to pony up the $400 million for Sun Life Stadium, the home of the Dolphins.

Here's the reason I'm posting.  The dolphins are mammals, not fish.  It's a common error, though.  Even marine biologist George Costanza made that mistake.

thanks Embo.  yes, the Marlins make the Dolphins/Fish reference problematic.  old references to the Dolphins included Fins or Fish.  given my distaste for the team and dolphins are mammals fact, I always opted for Fish.  I have edited header.

It is shocking to me that pro teams really request, and still often get, these taxpayer funds.  A county has to have better uses for its resources than funding billionaires' pet stadium projects.  Your typical middle class family really can only afford to watch on TV, and if they are watching on TV it really does not matter where the teams are playing.

That's me, turning the world against the Dolphins one CardBoard reader at a time....

some had the distaste early but you supply a toxic venom to continue the dislike
