OT Does anyone have experience with the Stanford African Studies department? -

In addition to collecting old trailers, we are frequenters of estate sales. A couple of weeks back we found this at a sale. The people doing the sale told us that the family was first generation from Ghana and that it is a traditional burial robe. Another person from the sale told us that one of the family members told her that it is a robe that people would don to dance in celebration of the deceased person's life. Either way the head part - while very intricately knitted - looks really small to put on and dance so I have know idea.
Anyone here involved or have experience with African studies? I've heard Stanford's is excellent and have emailed the curators of the Africana Library. Does anyone know any other resources we might have to figure out what this is?
Sorry, I don't know why it rotates when I put it on websites. The original is in portrait. Yvonne, any advice?
