After Day 1, Stanford is 11 strokes back from first place, tied for 12th with FSU. Notably, MoStacks (#2) shot a +7 (triple bogey on hole 15), and Sierra Kerstin (#5) shot a +4 (two double bogeys on the back nine).Â
The top five in order are Oklahoma State (-4), UCLA (-2), UW (+1)/U$C(+1), and Arizona (+3). That's Pac-12 strength, but Stanford isn't there yet. It's early, but the vaunted $EC has only Arkansas (T6) and South Carolina (T8) above Stanford.

Davidson with a hole in one or it would be worse. Need much better tomorrow
Re: WGolf @ NCAA tourney -

I'm guessing it was a rough day as only two teams broke par?
BYU must have a religious restriction against playing on Sunday--it says they shot their third round yesterday with a +10. I would guess that, plus their +6 today, probably means Stanford won't have to worry about them if Stanford starts playing like we know they're capable of playing.
C'mon Stanford...!

the biggest problem yesterday was that Mariah had an unusual bad day. But she just birdied her first hole of the day so I'm sure she's feeling a lot better now (I am).

We are even this far today but tied for 11-12. After about 5 holes

Stanford now minue 5 for the day thru holes 7-10. Back up to a tie at 6th place.Â

Stanford up to a tie at 5th place holes 10-13
Re: WGolf @ NCAA tourney -

we're in 6th place now and all 5 are playing well. Several teams that were ahead of us before the start of this round are just beginning to play; we may get a slight boost over them from the weather getting a little worse through the afternoon (slightly windier, 30% chance of rain).

Final few holes, Mariah closed out a strong -3, team -6 right now, tied for fourth.

Nine strokes out of first place right now, but Ohio State is currently playing holes 6-9 right now and tied at +2 with Stanford--if tOSU falls, then it'll be an all-Pac-12 top four, with Arizona at 6th place. Brutal.
U$C is sitting pretty at the top with a five stroke lead over UW, who are three ahead of UCLA.
It's top eight to qualify, and then match play after that, right?

I believe top 15 make the cut, then top eight go to match play. As long as you make tge top 8, I don't know that rhe exact position matters all that much.

I believe the top 8 finishers are seeded for Tuesday's match-play quarter- and semifinals; the match-play finals are Wednesday.

Stanford is halfway to qualifying for the match play portion of the competition. What a long week - 72 holes of medal play, then 3 rounds of match play over the final 2 days. Fatigue could definitely be a factor. But it sure is exciting from a fan's standpoint.
Stanford will be in the first groups on the golf course tomorrow playing with Oregon and Oklahoma State. The greens should be in great shape for making a lot of putts.Â

We end the day fourth, four strokes ahead of 9th place. We are Ina decent spot, but definitly can't coast. Six Pac-12 teams in the top eight.

Here is a nice article on Sierra Kersten and what she has been through this year. I wonder if her condition has affected her golf late in each round. She has played the final 7 holes in +4, +4 and +3.Â

Stanford finishes its round at +2, 290. It was under par until the final hole (the hardest on the golf course) which it played in +3.Â
The team is currently in 5th place and will be in the thick of the competition for top 8 tomorrow. Tee times to be announced, but the first groups are not scheduled to begin until around noon pacific so that the finish will be in prime time on the east coast. The Golf Channel will begin its coverage at 4 pm pacific.

18 has been our bugaboo: +5 over the first three rounds. But the same difficulty for everyone.
[Addendum:Â Hey the coach agrees with me! -- proof that even a broken (analog) clock can be right once in a while (me, not her).

Stanford could have a bigger cushion, but faltered on the challenging 400-yard par-4 18th hole, which plays slightly uphill into the wind and features a mammoth green. The team played it 4-over Friday and 3-over Sunday.
Thats what we just talked about in our team meeting, said Walker. Disappointed to let those shots go at the end. At the same time, this is a really tough finishing hole and I dont know that well be the only team to lose a shot or two.

Qualifying for the final 8 is 72 holes, Bob. One more round to go. Stanford tees off #1 beginning at 12:10 pm pacific. Right now, they are 5 shots clear of the 8th place teams. But the team leaderboard is very bunched up. Teams can shoot a good score and jump a lot of teams. Duke was under par and passed 7 teams today. Virginia was under par and also jumped 7 spots. Stanford needs a solid round to advance. The cushion is very thin.
