edit: I messed up the name of this thread. Obviously it should have been addition rather than attrition as it pertains to southern cal.

Isn't it both?  USC's addition is Utah's attrition.

That depends on whether Utah was expecting him back after graduation.  But you have to think U$C scoured opposing conference rosters for good senior DL to poach as grad transfers...that band needs a few bass players.

Isn't USC really thin on the DL coming into this year? IIRC they're in about as perilous of a spot as we were last year. Even if this guy is just a warm body that could be a real improvement.
