The '85 Bears 30 for 30 was one of the best of quite a few good ones, and one of the few that got me misty-eyed. I know Buddy Ryan was a total red ass, but the game needs characters like him to make it compelling. And though Bill Walsh killed the 46 defense, it no doubt had a gigantic impact for a time.
Nice to see Rex didn't fall far from Buddy's tree.Â

I wish I could remember the player, but the Niners had a terrific linebacker who related the following story. Before he was drafted, he worked out before Buddy Ryan. Ryan comes up to him and says something to the effect of "You won't make it in the NFL, I can see it in your eyes." Might have been Gary Plummer.

In my horribly biased opinion, the '85 B.earssssssssss were the greatest team in NFL history. To be fair, in today's NFL all 11 starters would probably get ejected in the course of a 60-minute game, but under the rules at the time I'll take them against ANYONE - including the '85 Dolphins.

Yeah I'd take them against the 1985 Dolphins. They were good (12-4), but they lost in the AFC Championship.
Maybe you mean the 1972 Dolphins?

Different era so hard to compare but I'd love to see the 72 Fins try to run against that front 7. I remember the one thing the '85 B.earssssss were most pissed about was having to play the Patriots in the Super Bowl. They REALLY wanted to get a rematch against the Fins.

They certainly trounced the 49ers that year. Although in my horribly biased opinion, I would go with the 49ers from the year before. Virtually the same point differential, they lost only to the Steelers, 17-20 as the Steelers had 11 penalties and should have had more.
