OT: The Boys of '36 (tonight on PBS) - fullmetal - 08-02-2016

If you can, find time tonight for the PBS premiere of The Boys of '36.  It's a one-hour American Experience episode featuring the 1936 US Olympic men's eight (rowing) that was the subject of the recent book The Boys in the Boat.  Yeah...they were UW Huskies...but they were also American Olympians, and it's a great story.

And it was featured in the Andrew Luck Book Club!

Show was well-done summary of the book - Redrum - 08-03-2016

...which I recommend even if you've seen this PBS show.  Amazing to actually see the brobdingnagian crowds that rowing drew back then.

You can stream it online as well.  I wonder if there are any parallels between the popularity of rowing (and its downfall) and the popularity of the current major professional sports leagues.  Governance seems to be a lot better these days.
