Twelve  (and an added bonus: Thirteen) - Redrum - 05-07-2010
(Got a (genuine) lineman commit. Third lineman in a row. (get it? get it?) Both Scout and Rivals report DT Anthony Hayes from Mendota Hts. MN. 6-3", 293 lb, committed. No rating or ranking, yet. We hope he\'s the NT we are looking for. Is a big HS wrestler, too, which bodes well for interior line play. His HS does not face top flight competition, but check out a series of vids on youtube.

Sounds like a good prospect. The article I read said he probably would be getting a lot of interest this summer so you do wonder a little bit how susceptible he would be to offers from the Big Ten and ND if they should come his way.
Anyway JH\'s recruiting philosophy seems to be to throw enough prospects against the wall so at least some stick. Hopefully he\'ll be one of them.
Thirteen...it\'s raining %$@*! linemen - Redrum - 05-08-2010
Funny you should mention ND, JPRI. Stanford just received a verbal from the highest rated football player in the state of Colorado, beating out the other finalist, Â ND.
Brendon Austin, 6-6, 265lb OT from Colorado is rated 4-star and #16 at his position by Scout. Rivals hasn\'t issued rankings/ratings yet. He had offers from Colorado, Notre Dame, Arizona, Kansas, Cal, Colorado State, Kansas State, Minnesota, Stanford, UCLA, Utah and Wisconsin. Â Maybe the only mystery is why Nebraska didn\'t offer, but...well, up the Cornhuskers. Â We\'ll take him.

It\'s fun to watch JH learn and grow in his job. Â I think we should only let him have lunch with Tara and Marquess who will talk with him of the joys of stability in the Paterno mold.

I\'m thrilled with these two linemen. Â OT and DT are both positions of great need.
I also like JH\'s recruiting approach - very pragmatic.
Nice.......and nicer -

I\'m pleased with Hayes, but more pleased with Austin. Why? Because Austin had some big time offers and also had the opportunity to consider those offers before he picked Stanford. That way we stand a better chance of avoiding a Tai-ler Jones or Jordan Zumwalt situation where a prospect verbals to us, but later changes his mind when an offer comes along he decides he likes better.
Anyway you have to be pleased with JH as a recruiter. He gets out and beats the bushes early and often.

It will be interesting to watch the Hayes situation. Â Kelsey Young, the RB recruit from Norco, was basically unknown before he gave his verbal to Stanford, and suddenly he became quite highly regarded. Â Similar things happened last year with a couple of guys who started with Stanford and ended up elsewhere (McNamara, at Wisconsin, Williams with BC). Â I\'m not sure if this is just Harbaugh and staff being ahead of everyone else, or the recruiting sites just figuring "Well, if a Div-I program values him, we better take a look," or some combination of the two.
In any case, it will be interesting to see A) where the final evaluation of Hayes lands and B) if we can actually keep him in the fold for the next 9 months.
