Within weeks of Stanfords victory in the Orange Bowl and No. 4 national ranking in the final polls, the schools ticket office reported a 206 percent increase in early sales of new season tickets for the 2011 football season.
Through June of last year, the ticket office sold approximately 458 new season tickets. In comparison, as of mid-February this year, the ticket office reported 1,400 new season tickets already sold.

Despite its success, Stanford averaged only 40,000 fans per game this year, ranking ninth in the Pac-10 for average attendance, higher than only Washington State.

I\'m surprised the season ticket sales last year were only 17K, hard to imagine averaging 23K single game tickets sold per game (and yes cheeks in seats were lower).

"There were twice as many cheeks in seats as fans."
Are you assuming there are no half a$$ed fans?

I would say there were four times as many cheeks as fans.

Actually, I don\'t think there have been any new season ticket sales as of yet. Â Deposits can be made to buy tickets, but my understanding is that tickets can\'t be ordered yet. Â There may be 1400 new deposits. Â That may mean far more than 1400 new season tickets as only one $100 deposit is required, no many how many tickets you are buying. Â

Come on, this is the card board, I want to see a regression analysis of cheeks versus fans versus seats, broken down by that week\'s position in the BCS rankings and precipitation at the start of each game quarter.
