Spring Practice starting soon... - washingtonismoney - 02-19-2011

Found this to be an interesting tidbit in the Chronicle\'s report:
"Interestingly, Shaw said the 6-foot-4 Daniel will start spring drills at quarterback but will also get a look at receiver. The competition at that spot is "going to be fierce from the first day," Shaw said."

The Mercury report is a little less interesting: http://www.mercurynews.com/college-sports/ci_17424513?source=rss

Doug Baldwin participated in an online chat a couple of months ago in which he raved about Daniels.  He didn\'t say so explicitly, but it sounded like Daniels had already been practicing with the receivers last season (otherwise, I\'m not sure how Baldwin could have drawn his conclusions).  Probably a bit of hyperbole, but Baldwin said he felt Daniels could develop into an all-American caliber receiver.  He definitely seemed very high on both Daniels and on Drew Terrell as a possible receiver.

After hearing Baldwin\'s comments, I\'m surprised that they are still workig Daniels at QB.  Maybe Shaw is just trying keeping expectations low until they see how Daniels develops

apologies to the young man.  It\'s Daniel, not Daniels

Daniel was a two-star recruit at qb.  To get his athletic ability, he probably was promised a shot at qb, which is probably the position he dreams of playing.  But if he is on the depth chart a number of spots down, he\'ll want to get on the field as a receiver.  Even higher rated qb like Justin Armour and John Lynch have made switches to other positions.
