Hmmm, and I thought he would have been destined to be a strong swimmer!  :P

OK, goin' out on a limb here - Redrum - 09-09-2016

When I watched  the TX/ND game I heard them pronounce Buechele's name.  I thought I remembered a Stanford athlete (football player) whose name was spelled the same but was pronounced "Buck ley" but spelled "funny".  Or so I thought at the time.  Now I find out that Texas' Buechele's might be the son of that guy.  Am I mis-remembering how Stanford Buechele's name was pronounced back when he was, reportedly,  John Elway's backup?

Buechele was a 2B on the baseball team, not a quarterback, according to what I've read.  Also, he was Elway's roommate at one point.

You might be thinking of Fred Buckley, who was a Stanford QB (along with John Paye) in the Jack Elway era. John Elway had already graduated by a couple of years.

Stevevwas a 3rd baseman and he with Jack McDowell donated lights to the baseball field

Pronounced boo-SHELL, Steve was indeed a 2B and Elway roommate and had a monster post-season which helped him get drafted pretty high. It was a good time to get hot, in pre-internet/social media days. (Nickname: Booboo)

Fred Buckley, if memory serves, drove around a white Jag. Yes, I was jealous. :P
