Lurkers - M T - 10-04-2016
I hadn't really thought about just how many lurkers there are watching what we post. As I write this,
 10 Members and 55 Guests are viewing this board.
I'll assume that count of "Guests" doesn't include all the spiders that scrape content across the Internet. I'd expect some of those are Stanford fans, but I'd have to guess most are from other schools or gamblers or sports writers, watching what we say. (I would welcome Stanford fans that are, and might remain, lurkers. I expect most of us watched the board a while to see if this was a community we wished to be a part of.)
It should remind us that what we say may get spread beyond the mostly collegial group that we are....

Guests does include spiders. There are only about four, though.

I lurked for a while before I started posting, usually to read something a little less apoplectic than the Bootleg, back when I was a subscriber there.

I lurked for a long time -- probably close to a decade -- before I started posting. Sometimes I think everyone was better off when I was just lurking. ;)

Also, remember that at any time guests could include members who are not logged in.

Like others, I was a long time Lurker before I signed up for a username. Then I lurked more before I posted my first post. Still a lurker :P :D

I often take a quick look at the site, and read a few postings, without logging in. If that's uncool, or if the site benefits from having me log in every time, I will make it a point to do so.

Well, you know, the site is giving up a lot of advertising revenue when people don't log in... not.
TBH, the biggest reason to log in is so that you can keep track of unread posts. By the way, if you are on a private machine, you can keep yourself logged in so you don't have to worry about having to log in every time.
