Per this website AT&T holds 40,800 for baseball but only 37K for football.
Sounds a bit small ....

After the rough ride they gave us about our slacker aspirations and Western Athletic Conference mentality building a 50K stadium, Â I think it\'s fair to rag on them for finally finding the sweet spot for Kal football: Â lopsided, viewer unfriendly, sized just right.

Honestly!!
They "picked" AT&T park because it would not be possible to get the Raiders, the A\'s and the Bears in the Coliseum at once.
The press release mentioned public transportation, etc. Â Are they serious? Â The Oakland Coliseum has its very own BART stop. Â Getting from UC-B to the Oakland Coliseum via BART would be easy for their students and the majority of their fans that use BART. Â I guess the public transportation concept eliminated Candlestick, but Oakland had to be choice #1.
The problem likely came down to the possibility of the A\'s in the playoffs. Â If the As make the playoffs in 2011 then there would be a big problem. Â It simply would not be possible to have all three teams playing in early October at the same time.
The seats at AT&T are really bad, and the place requires both teams to be on the same side. Â That may be OK for a bowl game, but would seem to present big problems for an entire season.
The USC fans are already really angry because this little plan certainly will eliminate their ability to attend the game. Â Not that this is a big deal for me.
I guess the good news is that this will really force them to stay on that ~24 month construction project schedule. Â Could you imagine if the project slips and the Bears need to find a home for the 2012 Big Game.
I have to think that the Oakland Coliseum would be announced as the venue because at that point any MLB season would be complete.

Cal will take a hit on attendance in 2011 as the China Basin ballpark seats 45,000 for football compared to 71,000 at aging Memorial Stadium but the game-day experience for players and fans could be enhanced by a more intimate setting.
and
Barbour said Cal\'s 38,000 season ticket holders will be accommodated at AT&T, although the exact seating arrangements have not been made. Barbour said fans who purchased tickets in the school\'s Endowment Seating Program (ESP) for Memorial Stadium will have access to the best seats at AT&T, including chair-back seats on the park\'s west side.

Are students season ticket holders? - Redrum - 05-10-2010
That would bem so cool, Â the elite season ticket holders taking up all the seats while the students rioted at the
unfairness of it all.

The return of the tree sitters would just be the icing on the cake! Â Does anyone really believe Berkeley can do anything related to their stadium in 10 months?
(Anyone know how ambitious the renovation is?)

actually it would be ~22 months (Dec 2010-Sept/Oct 2012)
Re: 59ers to San Francisco -

Whoops .... I stand corrected. Â Â We finished our build in 10 months so Cal might be able to get a mere renovation done in 22 months. Â But never, ever underestimate the ability of Cal\'s strange mix of bureaucracy, advocacy dramatists and special interest groups to screw this up.
Re: 59ers to San Francisco -

we did ours in 10 months with:
- double shifts for much of the time
- fast demo and removal of the old stadium
- easy access to the site for materials and construction mvehicles
- tearing down and starting over is almost always faster than an extensive remodel
- John A
Eliminating just the 1st one puts us much closer to 22 months than 10. The others also enabled a faster timeline.
Without knowing exactly what they hope to accomplish (and I recall reading that for most ticket buyers it is a better bench to sit on that will cost more with the premium seats getting more room and seatbacks, I also recall they decided against replacing the lovely port-o-lets above the student section) 22 months may or may not be ambitious
Re: 59ers to San Francisco -

The reason for selecting AT&T over the Coliseum is self-evident: a better experience for the fans. Â There is nothing "there" at the Coliseum. Â But with games at AT&T, fans can attend the game and make a day/evening of it in the City. Â
The public transportation rationale was just a . . . . rationalization for making the "elitest" decision.
And frankly, I don\'t blame the Bear powers-that-be for making that call. Â It\'s their choice, and it won\'t affect me in the least (so who really cares?).
