No Band at Big Game -
Robbie - 11-08-2016
According to a post in the Band Alumni group on Facebook there will be no LSJUMB at Big Game, because of the band's failure to respond to previous alcohol and other violations. The statement from band management says that the university has been opaque in its communications and expectations.
In any event, you'll have to just imagine All Right Now after touchdowns.

All Right Now as interpreted by John Cage. Sounds a lot like 4'33" (comment inspired by Robbie's signature)

May the offense catch fire and cause tons of silence in the "East" Bay.

has the band traveled to any football game since the Rose Bowl game?
the one year travel ban would have ended sometime in the Spring of 2016, was it extended? Are they on double secret probation??

Speaking of bands, I was impressed with the Oregon State band. I don't really care for marching bands, but OSU seems much more musically interesting than most (the worst is USC, who has a unique capability of ruining otherwise good music), and I was impressed with their formations.

I didn't pay any attention to their halftime show, but I did notice they're quite good musically.

Wow, unbelievable. Thanks for sharing. I'm a member of that group but didn't see the post (maybe it's swamped by election commentary).
There's no way I'm going to be the butt of Cal jokes about not bringing our band to Big Game.
Sadly, this is in the hands of the Title IX office and the Organization Conduct Board. I don't think the Athletic Department is going to go to bat for the Band... so things like boycotting the game are going to fall on deaf ears.

The band, once irreverent, is now irrelevant.

Confirmed that there will be no "travel" related to Big Game, not even a rally in the City.
"we'll do related events on campus but that's it. which really sucks." per JJJ jr.
So where can we stir up the pot with some alumni outrage? Don't you think the team would rather have the band there? Won't it help us? (I would hazard the guess that the majority of students will surely prefer that the band be present.)

In an alternate universe it would be fun to try 1982 without them. Then maybe we would have to watch that replay only a few thousand times over the years rather than untold millions.

Haha, good point. I'm sure Robbie would have something to add to that. 8)

Feckin' Nazis.
Of course, I'd trade a band absence for a win in Berkeley.

What I was told was that it was a 1 year ban, but then the administration (Title IX office or whoever) decided they "needed to see more" from the band. So it appears it's basically indefinite. But the band management also says they keep addressing everything they're told to address, and then when they ask to travel are given new hoops to jump through. So it mostly sounds like at this point it's some administrator(s) being a dick/dicks (oops, I think I just made a Title IX violation). Not sure who to complain to, but you the AD and President are always good people for old alums to yell at, right?

No worries - I'll be there, attending my 38th consecutive BG. Robbie can vouch that, as his former section leader, I'll do my best to maintain order and decorum, as always.
Decor 'um?

I also sent an email to Muir as well as John Etchemendy.

I'm sorry but Muir doesn't give a darn. There's no love lost between the Band and the Athletic Department. Plus the matter is outside the Athletic Department. And Muir doesn't strike me as someone who'd stick his neck out for anything. (I was really disappointed when the first communication I got from him was a plea to switch to Comcast because they carry Pac12N. I sent him a nasty letter, to which he actually called and left me a voicemail about).
I'm sending mine to Tessier-Levign and Etchemendy. But I'm waiting for a few more facts (I asked on the Band alumni FB page).

I got a reply from John Etchemendy, not much in the way of details but basically
"the band knows what they need to do to be allowed to travel and has not met those requirements".
