Well, the stream from Stanford is free, so I'm watching this instead of the WBB game :)Â There's a lot of silence from this announcer though...

0-0 at the half. Stanford's been pretty good with possession and shots on goal, but nothing's connected...yet. SCU have made some great desperation (read: physical) defensive plays to take away Stanford chances, and they've had one or two chance of their own to put a shot through, but nothing's come through for them either. SCU have the size and speed to survive thus far. I mostly love Stanford's passing, very clever stuff with the occasional brain fart. SCU's had a lot more of those, thankfully.
That's your know-nothing amateur's look at the game! ::)

In 2OT, Stanford falls to Santa Clara, with the goal coming close to 1:56 left in 2OT...what a heartbreaker :(Â SCU had about 3 shots on goal, Stanford with 14.

Bad night for Stanford women's athletics (except volleyball). Santa Clara ousts us as the #1 overall seed 1-0 as women's basketball loses its first game against Gonzaga. Sigh, that is the way of sports.

Oh, and the best college player in the country may have blown out her knee. Sullivan carried off the field 45 seconds into the second OT after going down clutching her knee. Before that, Stanford was pretty much dominating the run of play, though the Broncos may have had the best chance. After it, Stanford's midfield fell apart - passes directly to the other team, and a whole lot of heads down slow jogging back as the ball moved up field, rather than busting it to try to win it back.
The goal itself was a debacle, going through our right back as usual. Long high ball into the box, she jumps, and gets completely bodied off the ball, collapsing to the ground and leaving the Broncos player alone 12 yards in front of goal. Campbell had no chance.
Also have to say I didn't like Ratcliffe's game decisions - kept wondering why no substitutions when the the midfield was gassed. Davidson played all 108 minutes, Sullivan all 101 before she got hurt, and DiBiasi 101. Add Xiao at 88 minutes, and that's a lot of miles.
Sorry for the seniors.
