Directors Cup - BobK - 11-19-2016

I forget who did those wonderful updates on the Cup last year but with field hockey and women's soccer out quickly we are not doing well.

MWP is redshirting 5  including an Olympian and are a long shot to make the NCAA

Women XC just completed. Don't know our score yet but not too 3

Re: Directors Cup - BigEasyCard - 11-20-2016

BobK, you inspired me to set up this year's spreadsheet two weeks earlier than last year.

With the results from four teams in, we stand at 254 points (unofficial), up 9.5 points from last year for the four completed sports.  MCC improved 5 with a second place finish.  WCC improved 13.5 points with a fifth place finish.  WFH stayed even with a ninth place finish (they lost to UNC who eventually lost the final to the Blue Hens).  And WSOC earned 9 fewer points with a ninth place finish versus fifth place last year.

MWP didn't make the tournament last year, so any upside will be lost if they miss out again.  WVB finished 17th last year so there may be some upside there.  The major potential downside for Fall sports are MSOC and FB which earned 100 and 85 points respectively last year.

I'm cautiously optimistic that we will retain the Cup.  And I expect W Swimming & Diving to keep the national championship streak alive.

Geaux Cardinal!

BEC, WSoc lost in the round of 32 so they finish 17th, not 9th.

My bad.  Thanks for the correction Spiny.  That gives WSOC 50 points, making the YTD score 240 which is 4.5 points fewer than the same four sports earned last year.

MSoc beat UOP tonight 2-0 and advances to the round of 16 vs 12 seed Virginia.

Re: Directors Cup - Farm93 - 11-20-2016

At this early stage a few up and downs will loom large.  If football gets to 10 wins the point total will be OK.  Unlikely that the fall total will be at the 2015-2016 pace.  That's OK.

Lots of reasons to hope that the winter will be even better than last year, and there was a bit of a buffer over other programs.

There are other schools that are often in the chase.  So helpful to remember that UCLA is not going to get football points.  Texas will not get a lot of football points.  Then there are some schools that won NCs that are not going to finish in the top 5.  So their wins help too.  Delaware winning the FH NC is very helpful.  Northern Arizona winning Mens' CC is also going to help.

Re: Directors Cup - BigEasyCard - 12-04-2016

Stanford leads in first release for Fall 2016 with a total of 190 points in three sports.  Link here: http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/nacda/sports/directorscup/auto_pdf/2016-17/misc_non_event/Dec1DIOverall.pdf

Oregon and Colorado follow us based on strong cross country results for both men and women.

WSOC, WVB, MSOC, and FB should earn at least another 241 points, bringing the Fall total to 431 or better.  That puts us within 50 of last year's total of 480.

Thank ya kindly Big Easy.

Re: Directors Cup - BigEasyCard - 12-11-2016

It now looks like the Fall total will be at least 438 points, given performance to date by MSOC and WVB.

For Football I have assumed at least 25 points for the worst case of a Sun Bowl loss.  My previous post erroneously assumed minimum Football points of 45.  Football scoring structure is here:

http://www.nacda.com/directorscup/nacda-directorscup-scoring.html

Each sport has points on the upside but in deference to the woofing gods, I deliberately omitted the details from this post.

In any event, the Fall total will be a strong start for this year's defense of the Cup.

Re: Directors' Cup - BigEasyCard - 12-15-2016

The second Fall standings were published this morning with Stanford in the lead at 340 points.  UCLA is second with 275 and North Carolina is third with 256.  Link here: http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/nacda/sports/directorscup/auto_pdf/2016-17/misc_non_event/Dec15DIOverall.pdf

The Cardinal will widen their lead due to higher prospective finish in the two remaining sports, WVB and FB.
