&%^$*@$ Pac-12 -
cardcrimson - 11-19-2016
Have DirecTV, so was streaming the game. Stream ended after 3hrs and video went dead, but still had audio. After 15 mins, audio went dead. Tried in vain to find another stream, to no avail--too late. Couldn't stream the KNBR broadcast, as they don't stream live games. Finally caught the final 3 minutes streaming KZSU.
The Pac-12 has got to fix this. How much of the country actually has access to the Pac-12 network?

Curious... what were you streaming if you have DirecTV (which doesn't carry P12N)?

Yeah, TuneIn radio is definitely the way to go. Sometimes they'll geo-IP block you if you're in the local market (eg you can't stream KNBR if you're physically in the Bay Area) so it can be irritating if you're in a radio-free area (like you're at a party where it would be rude to turn on the host's radio).

I've had it freeze on me a few times. I just go back to the schedule page and restart the feed. It has worked for me for about three seasons.

I'm confused, were you streaming from the Pac-12 Network website via someone's cable log in, or were you watching an illegal stream. Because the Pac-12 definitely doesn't "need to fix" your illegal stream cutting off early...

I believe the complaint centers around the lack of PAC-12 nets on DirectTV, thereby forcing the OP to use a not-quite-legal alternative.

Literally stealing from Stanford as the Stanford AD is a co-owner and profit sharing member of the Pac-12 Nets. I recall all of those Hollywood and music stars that used to talk about various sharing sites impacting the entertainment industry in those promo spots. Here the not-quite legal alternatives impact the Pac-12 and the Stanford AD. I understand the desire to watch, but it is a touch ironic that a "fan" site has a discussion on how to damage the entity we claim to support.

How in the world is it "literally stealing" if the person can't even buy the thing if he wanted to?

One cannot buy the Mona Lisa from the Louvre, but one could (maybe) literally steal it.

Sure, but this is more like saying that downloading a JPG of the Mona Lisa is "literally stealing" it. It's not! You haven't taken anything!

Exactly. Watching a non-licensed stream harms the owner of the legitimate broadcast rights if (and only if) the person watching would otherwise have paid for it. If that person literally can't buy it, then there's no harm.

Dont agree that there is no harm to the pac12. If a person cant watch the game then they likely either put pressure on their carrier to do a deal with the pac12, or if possible find another legal carrier that has the game and switches to them. By finding an "alternative" way to watch the game, there is less pressure on a carrier from their subscribers to do a deal with the pac12, and we have the standoff we have now, where a carrier apparently doesnt feel great pressure to do a deal with the pac12.

You can't buy it from the firm you are doing business with today. Everyone in the USA can buy Pac-12 Nets. One could buy DirectTV AND cable. One could switch to cable or Dish.
It is available for sale, at least for those in the USA. For those living outside the USA I get the not available story, but for most on this board the objective has been to stay loyal to DirecTV and steal from the Pac-12 Nets and its owners, including the Stanford Athletic Department.
We are in year 5? 6? of the Pac-12 Nets. Pac-12 is missing out on millions of DirecTV dollars. DirecTV is able to hold the line, in part, because some of its customers are stealing. Kind of that subtle, "victim-less" crime stealing, but still enjoying unauthorized distribution of material owned by the Pac-12.

This is just false. There are plenty of places where you don't have the option at all. And it's not stealing, saying that just makes you look ridiculous.
