Well, if the NDNation fans have anything to say about it, it shouldn't be just floated, it should be propelled.

Re: Brian Kelly leaving ND? - BostonCard - 11-20-2016

Would any big name program hire him?  Seems like a lot of baggage, and this season certainly hasn't helped.

I'm guessing that Norte Dames appetite for a big buyout after they have just finished paying butt front's buyout might be limited.

Stanford fans should all donate to help raise his buyout.

Maybe Texas will take him.  They have money and are now in the market for a new coach.

Re: Brian Kelly leaving ND? - fullmetal - 11-20-2016

Texas is going to offer Tom Herman, who is a much better fit for many reasons.

This is one hot offseason to be an up-and-coming coach!  LSU, Texas, USB, et al. may all be hiring (not to mention any $EC victims of not being Nick Saban-enough).

Re: Brian Kelly leaving ND? - winflop - 11-21-2016

I don't see Brian Kelly leaving ND voluntarily unless it's for another big-name job.  I don't see any of those big-name jobs being offered to Kelly because, frankly, he hasn't earned it and because there are up and comers with better records.  So ND is going to have to fire him and pay him, and he will end up somewhere in a mid-level Power 5 program like Arizona, Baylor, etc.

Not sure how I feel about the possibility of having Purple-Face in the Pac 12.

How about Oregon?  One Kelly is as good as the next...

Arizona's colors are blue & red so I think he'd fit in perfectly there :P

Orgeron to be made permanent at LSU, Herman likely to go to UT, according to various reports.

Strong firing by UT official

Re: Coaching carousel - gocard14 - 11-26-2016

Seems like a good call by LSU to me.  There are no clear slam dunk coaching hires this year, Herman included, and even Herman was likely was just using LSU to drive up his price. Orgeron will be relatively cheap and likely have a contract with favorable terms so that if he doesn't do great and something better comes along, they can move on it with less of a buyout.  In the meantime, he is a great recruiter who players love to play for and will have no shortage of talent. If he gets some good coordinators they could be a force to be reckoned with.

Re: Coaching carousel - Spiny_Norman - 11-26-2016

Lots of talk on the interwebs about Orgeron bringing Kiffin or Sarkisian to Baton Rouge as his OC.

FWIW, from SI's Pete Thamel:

Quote:There's been a sense in the industry for weeks that the fate of Oregon coach Mark Helfrich has been sealed. The counter to that is there's still no obvious replacement on the board. Oregon quietly pursued Herman in the same way that LSU did, but that move didn't make enough sense for him to start over in another region of the country. A report from 247 Sports indicated that TCU's Gary Patterson also passed.

Various speculations about who might replace him.

The miserable 49ers fan in me is quietly hoping the more rotund Kelly is getting homesick for the PNW.

Re: Coaching carousel - CTcard - 11-26-2016

So, Texas hires Herman just about simultaneously with firing Strong. Actually a little surprised at the timing, if not the result. Most coaches state that they won't negotiate for a job until it is officially open, then the timing at least provides some plausibility for that. In this case there is none of that - Herman obviously had the deal worked out and agreed to while Strong was still the Texas coach.

Re: Coaching carousel - fullmetal - 11-26-2016

It was the worst-kept secret in Texas...everyone's pretty much known about it since the Kansas loss.

Do we want to improve Oregon without any indication that Baalke and the Yorks will hire a coach who's any better than Chip?
