Point spread up to 35 now.

I would suspect Shaw's toughest task this week would be getting the team to take Rice seriously.

You would expect this game to be a blow out, but who knows? After all Chattanooga played Alabama reasonably tough, as they were up 3-0 at the end of the first quarter and only down 14-3 at halftime. Then again, Chattanooga was 8-2 going into the game, Rice is 3-8 (although they have won three out of their last five games).

Beware the wounded owl?  I have no doubt the coaches will have this team mentally and physically ready to show the home crowd how far this team has come from the one that lost to Washington St & Colorado.

Before the season started I predicted a 9-3 record with significantly more upside than downside.  In order to do MUCH better, a lot of stars would have had to align that didn't (OL, QB, ILB, DL, OLB).  Of those five, we got about 50% of them but now I'd say it's more like 80%.  More than enough to deliver a butt-whooping on Saturday and again in mid/late December.

Worth mentioning that Rice AD Joe Karlgaard is a Stanford alum (and former athlete) - http://www.riceowls.com/genrel/joe_karlgaard_872366.html

And his dog is named Fleener. I'd like to know the story behind that.

Sadly, I fear the home crowd is going to include 20,000+ empty seats.  If that Friday rain slides into Saturday the number of empty seats could climb quite a bit.  I know Stanford's demands on the conference are a big part of the November scheduling problem, still Rice in late November is not ideal IMHO.

Re: Next Up: Rice Owls - French Rage - 11-21-2016

Are they bringing their band?  I would love for the halftime show to be a sort of dance-off between the bands, but with controversial formations rather than dance moves.

I can't wait.  I love inclement weather.

If it had been a true Pac-12 After Dark game I would have been able to go, but my plane lands around 6pm so I won't make it.

Former Stanford wrestler Tanner Gardner is a senior associate athletic director and chief revenue officer at Rice.
