The announcer just led into the game with "THE FANS ARE HERE. THE STUDENTS ARE HERE. ONLY THE VICTOR WILL SURVIVE."
Meanwhile, the Staples Center is so empty there are no good jokes.

More in strange comments from the announcers/gamecast. Their keys to the game advised Oregon State to "NO WHERE JEREMY GREEN IS AT ALL TIMES." Later, in the Jeremy Green files, they suggested that Oregon State would happily cede open corner threes to the aforementioned Green (the open corner three being perhaps the most productive shot in basketball). Unfortunately Owens was unable to find Green open, which is something of a trend: the older players have been making many worse decisions today than the younger ones.

So: the team is 2-18 from the floor, and they went from doing reasonably well...to becoming terrible within the space of a few minutes. Two players have missed dunks, Andrew Zimmerman seems to believe he\'s a featured scorer (and committed one of the dumbest fouls I\'ve ever seen). Somehow this game is within five.

Halftime score: 26-18 with Oregon State on top. Â OSU is shooting 33% and Stanford is shooting somewhere around 12%. Â Ouch.

Well, that end was surreal and confusing. I\'m still not sure what happened.
The overall issues about the team have been well-covered to this point, and who knows whether an offseason and Chasson Randle will cure them. For Johnny Dawkins\'s sake, they\'d better.

2011-2012 must be better, if JD gets to stay.
JD\'s style of play is so boring that the team has to start winning to justify the ugliness.
I think the Frosh are good enough to get up to 4th or 5th in the conference in 2011-2012.

The book on how to win at Stanford has been written but our coach hasn\'t read it - or, more likely, thought he knew a better plotline. Â Where\'s the mental toughness, discipline in shot selection, hard-nosed defense, controlled guard play and enforcing big men, Coach Dawkins? Â Â
How about just making a few well timed free throws?
As I watched two sorely needed free throws miss badly in the waning minutes of tonight\'s game I thought of Chris Hernandez beating an NCAA bound Washington in 2006. Â Needing to make three from the charity stripe with time all but expired to send a game into overtime, Chris calmly sank all three - and the whole crowd was confident he would do it. Â A shattered but sweet 16 bound Husky squad went on to lose the game in OT by 9 points.
Ancient history - and a wholly different team - despite the shared uniform. Â Time to check the ego, hit the library and read Montgomery\'s book.
