The way this article starts is interesting because when he came to us we were a 'bottom program' in terms of our performance trend

It did happen.  It's called Stanford, thanks to Idiotface.

Except when he was hired by Stanford, he wasn't yet a top coach.  By the time he dallied with Kansas, he had already made Stanford into a bowl team, which was already a great accomplishment.
