I know I'm conflict avoidant, but given the general tenor of conversation on BI, that doesn't sound like any fun at all... :o

I view the site as a guest from time to time. Im not especially interested in their internal stuff (eg, issues with the Cal administration) but they have info/discussions on general Pac12 and college football issues and, dare I say it, sometimes interesting political discussions. And they of course have views on Stanford, sometimes silly/uninformed at best, but I find it interesting to see how we are perceived. I find the quality less than Cardboard, more complaining, less constructive (maybe partly because they have more to complain about) but definitely better than a typical sports board.

You all are trying to normalize BearInsider, which seems pretty wrong-headed. However, they are good for a laugh when some of their more absurd Stanford characterizations bubble up. On the other hand it feels sort of like laughing at the less fortunate.
Lurked there since its inception... - Redrum - 12-03-2016
and sniped, or engaged occasionally There are some subjects upon which they are simply not rational but, yes, they do have some good observations. But I'm a Schadenfreude kinda guy, so you know why I read it.
By "since its inception" I mean when it was first started and our Cal friend (yes, he was) Lurck clued us in to its existence. In some ways, its founding and history kind of parallel Cardboard. Very much a home-built project of a determined individual. Cant recall the original name but it was a fun place to read. Eventually it joined or was absorbed into one Insider syndicate.

Wow, interesting reaction to a clear Title IX violation...

Summary: Cal women's field hockey team hasn't had a facility to practice or host games for two years (they've had to play "home" games at Stanford).
BI's football forum reaction: why is football subsidizing money-losing sports, field hockey is like little league where only the parent's attend, it's an east coast sport so cut it.
Wow.
I'm tempted to get on there and say "profit is not the point of a university, where almost everything is subsidized", and post pictures of our gleaming field hockey stadium and our 22 Director's Cup trophies.
It would be sooooo easy to troll those people.....
Cutting programs at Cal - Redrum - 12-03-2016
Well, they are up to their necks in debt. When they financed the stadium they structured it so the really heavy debt burden wouldn't really hit until (5 yrs? 10 yrs?)...which means the second punch is not far off. Cutting minor programs isn't near enough, but what case can they make to anyone if they don't at least appear to be making sacrifices? The ****storm is coming and their Athletic Dept. appears to be led by a personable, risk-averse apparatchik if you believe the posters on Bear Insider.

Original name was "Cyberbears" and the main board was "Growls", I believe. Main founder posted as GreyBear. Not that I ever lurked there or anything....

Indeed. BI does not believe in free speech.
