Too bad for Jackson.  He had a great season, but since his team didn't make the playoff I guess he's apparently not eligible to win, and will have to watch someone with inferior stats do so.

D'onta Freeman is getting boned.  Has a RB who gained over 2,000 yards rushing from a Power 5 school ever not been a finalist?

But this includes bowl game stats, so pre-bowl stats would mean a bunch of them had sub-2000 yds at the time of H-man selections.


Matt Forte (Tulane in '07) and Tevin Coleman (IU in '14) strike me as names that I don't remember seeing in H-man discussions, and neither of them went to bowl games in those seasons, iirc.

So Tevin Coleman is the only one from a Power 5 other than Freeman.  I guess you really do have to be on a team that wins 9+ games to be considered.

Seriously, after Nelson, Elway, Gerhardt, Luck, and CMac, any Stanford fan who still cares about this award must be suffering from a psychological disorder roughly equivalent to Stockholm syndrome or masochism.

There is very limited upside for McCaffrey coming back.  Really not much of an opportunity to improve his draft stock because he is already a known to NFL front offices.
I don't expect him to but I would be very pleasantly surprised if he did.  I'm sure he's talking to Luck about it.

McCaffrey had the best year in the history of college football, which was recognized as such by Associated Press and the Paul Hornung Award, but not the other one. Mileage may vary.


So IMO, three out of the six results were pretty crummy.

I disagree about RG3 having the better year :)  Luck definitely should have won that year...RG3 wasn't even in the conversation until at least halfway through the season, iirc .

Part of the issue was the manner of each loss. With Toby, sure he had a better year, but Bama had a better season. OK fine reinforced in Luck's loss to Cam. But then, when we have a great team, RG3's 3 losses with Baylor isn't a big deal; check out his socks!


So then CMAC has the best offensive season in CFB history for a Rose Bowl bound Stanford squad. And loses.


One suspects that Bryce Love could literally defy gravity and fly next year, and a majority of    voters wouldn't really be that impressed.

Toby also won the Doak Walker award for best RB over Ingram. Yet, Ingram won the Voldemort because Alabama.

Add also that Derrick Henry's offensive line won the Joe Moore award for best offensive line. That surely helped his stats a lot, but nobody was adjusting for that. Because clearly the crimson uniform deserves a Voldemort.
