Saw it on tiwtter. Is that real? To focus on NFL draft prep? I would think that would be good showcase.

Mike & Mike just discussed it on their show, so I guess it is true. Not at all surprised.

Not surprised? As in, you expected it to happen? How often do players hold themselves out of bowl games without an apparent injury? I don't recall this happening.

Perhaps he does have a nagging injury and doesn't want to say publicly he's skipping the game for health reasons.

Fournette announced earlier this month that he would forego his team's bowl game to "prepare" for the draft. A euphemism for "I don't want to get injured".
If we were in the Rose Bowl, I think CMac would play.  But to risk damage in what is essentially an exhibition-type game vs an unranked opponent...I really don't fault his decision.
Nevertheless, I am disappointed.  :'(

WOW! That is really really lame.  Very disappointing. I hold him in very high esteem, but he is no Andrew Luck. Luck never would have pulled something like that.

Not a surprise, and a good choice.  I guess the next question is does Turbisky play, as he is a top NFL prospect, I think Mel Kiper's #1 QB at this time?

The bowl games are EXHIBITIONS.  Nothing makes that more clear than when star players sit them out to prepare for the NFL draft.  Would Fournette and McCaffrey sit out if their teams were in the playoffs?  Maybe, but the odds would be lower, and that would give the games more credibility.

The NCAA would be wise to allow True Frosh to play in bowl games without losing a year of eligibility, IMO.  I mean how nice would it be to see Trevor Speights get some run in the Sun Bowl?  Let's say Love is dinged.  Scarlett is the only RB who has played.  Does Shaw sacrifice a year of Speights eligibility to try winning an exhibition game?  No way.  So right there you see it isn't a real game, and the outcome isn't really all that representative of what Stanford was as a regular season team.

Christian McCaffrey won't play in the Hyundai Sun Bowl on Dec. 30 in El Paso, choosing to begin his preparation for the 2017 NFL Draft "immediately."

Geez, what are we going to have next, players deciding midway through the season that they want to enter the NFL draft and sitting out the rest of it?

It certainly lends credibility to the notion that college football players are only there to prepare themselves for professional football.

Unfortunate but also understandable. However, within the recent Mt. Rushmore of Toby, Andrew and Christian - this definitely brings him down a notch for me. Also, the cynic in me wonders if this wasn't announced 2 weeks ago to enable Stanford to sell a few more Sun Bowl tickets.

Bummer, though - I was really looking forward to watching him rock out for the last time in a Stanford uni.

At least I can go to work next Friday guilt-free.  Sun Bowl really is meaningless.
