In Appreciation of Christian McCaffrey -
Hank 91 - 12-28-2016
I just finished a long piece on McCaffrey (you can read it over on my site, if you're so inclined:

It gave me an idea. What's your favorite McCaffrey memory? I'd love to read what everyone has to say.

The Rose Bowl. The joystick run vs. kal last year. Every play that made it to the SC Top 10. Brushing off badly angled hits, running low and powerfully through tackles. Leaping a hapless Maryland would-be tackler. Always maintaining composure on the field. The praises that the coaches sang of his work ethic.
I remember his parents/family being shooed off the Rose Bowl turf after the game because they didn't have the right passes--they were disappointed but didn't make a fuss.
There's a lot about him we ought to remember. Just another once-in-a-generation player to carry the Stanford football brand...

The punt return against Kansas State that was called back for an illegal block in the back (which was pretty ticky-tack).

A touchdown run (forget against whom) in which Chryst had gone downfield and made the last block on some hapless defender (up the right side of the field near the goal line). CMac would have scored anyway, but he was more jazzed about Chryst's block than about scoring: he was chucking Chryst in the shoulder pads so hard I was worried he might injure him. Chryst was just shrugging it off and trying to get to the sideline, but he couldn't escape CMac.

Any game against the Triplets - Redrum - 12-28-2016
USC, Notre Dame, Cal... What a contrast...the controlled, respectful, McCaffrey and the red/purple-faced Brian Kelly.
Thanks, Christian. It'll be a while until someone else even comes close.

First play from scrimmage, Rose Bowl.Â

Rose Bowl punt return. Everyone knew he was gonna get the ball, and just maybe he'll do something special with it, and then he goes ahead and does.
But his long catch and run in the PAC 12 championship game was awesome and since I was there in person, it's right up there for me. Also, bugger $C.

nope, it was a later one. More open field, other direction.

His first play from scrimmage against UCD. From that point forward we knew he was a threat every time he touched the ball, and he proved us right so many times.
First Rose Bowl TD. When the rest of the college football world truly understood what we'd already known for almost 2 seasons

My favorites were two texts I received from my son. We've watched Stanford football together 2,900 miles apart for five years now. He used to wear an authentic CMAC jersey to Naptown sports bars. His obsession with late night Stanford football was legendary in his company and even made it into their yearbook. He thinks West Coast sports (Stanford, Sharks, Niners, Warriors, Giants) and Tony Soprano dropped his GPA at least one-half point.
First play from scrimmage Jan. 1 2016 Pasadena: "Game"
Punt return against KSU: "I need a McCaffrey Mode for Madden!"

Rushing, throwing, and catching a TD in the same game. Unreal. (OK, Hogan did it too.)

0:26 into this link - 70 yard run against UCLA. Vision to find the backside hole and burst to take it the distance. Plus it happened out of the Wildcaff which shows how ridiculous this run was.

Saying my disappointment at not seeing Christian playing for us tomorrow is beyond palpable is still an understatement. Nonetheless, his play as a Cardinal has been nothing short of remarkable. Truly transcendent.

I have honestly been trying to ignore this LackCaffrey situation and attempting to get excited about the game today; I should not have viewed this thread. :-[
With that said, this footage is spectacular and viewing it is (once again) astonishing.

winflop you picked the one I was going to say that I'll never forget. So here's another one that tells you who Christian is and how hard he's worked to earn what he has:
Quote:Graham Shuler: Christian has that special drive, that x-factor, the "it factor"every intangible that you can measure. My favorite story about Christian, that embodies who he is: We do this thing here called the Gator Run. It's one of our most intense off-season training things. It's when you load up one of those utility vehicles, like a Gator, with 600 pounds in the back and three coaches are riding in it. We push it all around campus, and it's a sprint.
It's really, really tough. You rotate guys pushing it. A lineman will push anywhere from three to 10 times. A tight end will push it maybe 15 times. A running back pushes it somewhere between 10 to 20 times. It's really rare for anyone to push it over 20 times. When we did it this summer, Christian pushed it 43 times. He took 43 turns. No one told him to do that; it wasn't the expectation. But when guys were getting tired, Christian was always right there, in the front, waiting. I hope you can imagine the chaos of 60 guys chasing a small vehicle around campus. That's Christian in a nutshell.
