Stanford will be moving on up... - OutsiderFan - 01-02-2017

in the Final AP rankings that is.  What a mess for the voters to figure out.  Here's how I see the Top 15 going:

1. Clemson 14-1
2. Alabama 14-1
3. Oklahoma 11-2
4. Washington 12-2
5. Wisconsin 11-3
6. Southern Cal 10-3
7. Penn State 11-3
8. Florida State 10-3
9. Michigan 10-3
10. Ohio State 11-2
11. Oklahoma State 10-3
12. Stanford 10-3
13. Virginia Tech 10-4
14. Colorado 10-4
15. LSU 8-4

I know Ohio State looked like a train wreck but they're not going to fall that far...

For Stanford, 12th seems about the highest we can expect.  Might be one or two places lower if winning teams currently behind us (LSU, Florida) jump ahead on the strength of their most recent performance.

Not sure about Wisconsin finishing ahead of all three teams which beat them this year.  I'd expect them to finish behind Penn State, at least.

Geaux Cardinal!

Wisconsin will get almost no credit for beating a Group of 5 team, even though it should.

I'm guessing Stanford will be #12 or #13, depending on whether LSU jumps us.

I think we could be 14 or 15. I am not sure that we will leapfrog Colorado and Western Michigan since they lost to good teams.

Hard to say. WMU really don't have any marquee results; their high ranking might mostly be a function of that shiny "0" in the L column. Colorado has a stronger case, but getting blown out isn't a good look.

I certainly agree that WMU didn't beat anybody that should save them from dropping like a rock. The problem for Stanford will be that Colorado beat us, and many of the poll voters probably won't bother to evaluate who is the better team overall. Colorado has certainly not looked very good in the last two games, and that may be enough. Or not.
