New MBB Commit? -
socalstanfan1 - 02-07-2017
According to 247 Sports, as of 2/1/2017 we have a new commit to the MBB team: Isaac White, a point guard from Australia. (If this has already been discussed on an earlier thread and I missed it, apologies). Below is a Youtube video of the young man in action.

Nice to see a guard joining the program.

He doesn't look much like Andrew Vlahov, but let's hope he has the same competitiveness...

Doesn't look like a PG and doesn't look to be 6 foot 1.

Perspective is a weird thing. Steph Curry never looked 6-3 to me on the basketball court, surrounded by guys who are taller than him. Then I saw him in a pic with Obama on a White House visit and realized just how tall he really is.Â

All I care is that he's fast and he's a credible 3-pt threat. The video I saw suggests both. And what other options do we have? This is our first guard recruit since 2014, and there was nothing on the radar among the American recruits still considering us...

Has Haase done anything to make anyone believe he can recruit or that he has an eye for talent yet? Or is the jury still out on that?

I think until he has a full recruiting class start playing next year, the jury
has to be out. How else can we judge? He did ink Kodye Pugh a few weeks after he assumed the head coach position, so I suppose we can consider that, but I don't think he's played yet, so I'm not sure what we would base an assessment on...

Haase looked he developed some players while at UAB. his UAB NCAA tournament team in '15 was all underclassmen and all were his recruits. he developed a good reputation as a recruiter in Chapel Hill as well. Adam Cohen, one of the assistants, has a good rep as a talent evaluator/high energy recruiter. Da Silva, Okpala and White is better than I would have hoped for a year ago.

Da Silva has gotten very good reviews from internationally minded evaluators. Okpala seems to be really good. White is a question mark but assessments of the other two are positive.

Is Pugh redshirting, and if so, why? It's very rare for college hoopsters to redshirt if they are any semblance of a good player. Stanback has contributed next to nothing. Why isn't he shirting?

Pugh is redshirting and I agree it's rare. However keep in mind he went from a 2016 to 2017 back to 2016. A strong hint that a possible redshirt was coming.Â
Quite a painter if you saw the portrait he presented to Tara.

Because our top 4 big men can't stay out of foul trouble.
