This was touched upon in Wilber's analysis, but here's another piece noting that roughly half of top-50 QB's wind up transferring.
These analyses are always a bit difficult, because you never know if a QB fails because he simply wasn't that good, or was good but got stuck behind a better QB. Still, it does suggest that our miss rate is not that out of line.
