WWP - down go the T.rojans - Spiny_Norman - 04-08-2017

Stanford women's water polo ended U.SC's 52 match winning streak today in Los Angeles 12-8.  Stanford opened a 7-3 lead in the 2nd quarter which the T.rojans closed to 7-5 by halftime.  U.SC scored the first goal of the 2nd half but Stanford scored the next 5.

WWP has regular season matches remaining vs. UCLA and San Jose State before the MPSF tournament in LA in three weeks, followed by the NCAAs in Indianapolis May 12-14.

Um.... Beware the woofing gods....  We have yet to play UCLA, whose only loss was 9-10 against USC the day before we lost to USC by the same score.    Unfortunately, that game won't be televised.  Fortunately, it will be at Stanford on Saturday at 3PM.

Games are free.  Drop in and cheer Stanford's team to a victory.  Currently, the weather prediction is mid-60s and cloudy (but half the seating would require sunscreen).

The game against USC was an Olympic-level event.  Their 2m woman was very impressive, but Stanford mostly kept enough pressure on the position to keep the ball out of the hole.  Stanford, on the other hand, was very efficient.  We jumped out to the lead 2-0 and never let them tie it again.

If you're a water polo fan, you may be interested in this article I've seen passed around by Stanford WWP alumnae: https://www.waterpology.com/its-time-for-change/

The author coached the Stanford MWP team for 25 years, retiring after the 2001 season (Tony Azevedo's freshman season).
