A Stanford Tormentor -
CTcard - 04-26-2017
Our friends across the Bay have hired Marques Tuiasosopo as their QB coach - as a player he was a notable Stanford-killer with both an all-time record 200 yd rushing/300 yd passing game against us in 1999 and a crazy comeback victory in 2000.
ESPN Pac 12 blog has a feature,
Quote:Perhaps it's fitting, then, that Tuiasosopo tormented Stanford more than any other team as a player
However, I don't think that as a coach he has had particular success against us.

Was at that game in 2000. It felt like just a few hundred of us stuck it out in the rain to watch it unfold. Amazing game, even though we lost.

I remember that 99 game. All they did was run the option and our defense could not stop him. It's enormously frustrating to know it's coming and not being able to stop it. I'd like to see him try that tactic against the current Stanford Defense.

I remember the frustration level, which I am sure was shared on the field, that we all knew that we couldn't stop him. Almost as bad as USC and OJ. Not quite as bad, because OJ was known to be exceptional. The Washington QB was considered "good, but not great". Well, that day, he was great. I am not sure it would matter what defense was out there. Sometimes, a good player gets into a zone where nobody and nothing will stop him. It seemed like it that day.

If I'm doing the math right, he's 1-9 against us as a coach. The lone win was USC in 2014, and he's been part of two teams we've beaten twice in a season, UCLA in 2012 an USC in 2015.

Made worse by the fact that he broke his butt in the first half and still put up ridiculous numbers after being injured.

Froze in 2000. Heroics by Fasani and multiple onside kicks but Tui brought em back on the last drive. UDub lost the Williams kid who passed a few years later. Long delay getting him into an ambulance. Later revelations re some abuse accusations.

By family ties, he may also be classified as a ND tormentor. It looks like the alter ego of his cousin with the same last name as him was Lennay Kekua, a.k.a. Dead Fake Girlfriend.

My uncle went to school with his dad, Manu I think. Says the whole family are great people. So I hope kal's QBs do well, except against us.
