Football Scheduling Update -
ColoradoTree - 05-24-2017
Apologies if this was posted elsewhere and I missed it, but Stanford Football has filled out its 2018 non-conference slate with... UC Davis. The other games are home vs. San Diego State and away to Notre Dame.Â
Ugh. I know scheduling can be tough, but this is disappointing. With N.D. and SDSU already on the schedule, it seemed like a lower-tier Power 5 school would have been the appropriate fit.Â

and why not switch the SDSU and UCD games, currently SDSU on Sept 1 and UCD on Sept 15. Anyone else think we'll play USC on Sept 8?

Are we still feeling the scheduling effects of SJSU pulling out of their series with Stanford? We have nothing to gain by scheduling UC-Davis.

Per the article announcing the game (
http://www.gostanford.com/news/2017/5/23/football-uc-davis-matchup-announced.aspx), there are still non-conference openings in 2020 (@ ND on 10/10, vs. BYU on 11/28), 2022 (@ ND on 10/15, vs. BYU on 11/26), and 2023 (@ BYU on 9/2, vs. ND on 11/25) in the next few years. If ensuring that third game is at home is paramount, we may be looking at more of these one-off games vs. marginal opponents, as Power 5 schools would want a home and away. And given that 5 out of 6 of those BYU/ND games are in October or November, it looks like we'll have more early season byes in our future.Â
Oh, and eric, it looks like SDSU plays Arizona State on Sept. 15, 2018, so no hope of shifting that game with Davis.Â

Maybe? It's nice to have that guaranteed home game every year, but we haven't fully gone down the road of one of the non-conference games being cupcakes. In 2021, two of the games are on the road (Kansas State and Vanderbilt), and the same is true in 2025 (Vanderbilt and BYU). I guess I don't really see the value of home non-conference games against marginal opponents in the first couple of weeks, so I'm fine doing a home-and-home vs. teams that are already on the future schedules like Boston College, TCU, and Vanderbilt. I'd like to add Georgia Tech to that list to get us in front of Georgia kids, since we've had a nice recruiting pipeline there.Â
And though 2018's non-conference schedule isn't as impressive as others, future schedules will look very respectable if we continue playing Notre Dame after the 2023 season. In 2024, it would be vs. TCU, vs. Vanderbilt, and @ N.D.; in 2025, it would be @ Vanderbilt, @ BYU, and vs. N.D.; in 2027, it would be @ TCU, vs. Vanderbilt, and vs. N.D.

We need a mid-season non-conf game just like the $EC schedules their bye--I mean--mid-season non-conf games. It'd be convenient.

Adding a second creampuff is full of McWeak Sauce but there probably weren't a lot of options at this point. I really want to see a home & home with Michigan in some of those later openings (2021 & beyond).

with current commitments with both schools the earliest home and home available would be in 2022 and 2023...
