Trivia Time -

Since the other site has scared away several of my baseball trivia friends I thought it was time for trivia here.Â
Name the 6 SF Giant Pitchers to start an All Star game? Ah yes while a Giant

I think one guy started an ASG as a Giant, and another one as an A, becoming the first pitcher to start for each league.

Matt Cain and Jason Schmidt both started in relatively recent times.

Good guess, but not correct. Have to go back a bit further.

Rick Ruschel (I think I'm spelling that wrong). I remember because of the bomb Bo Jackson hit off of him to dead center field to lead off the game.
Re: Trivia Time -

Only one New York Giant started an All-Star game, King Carl Hubbell, noted for striking out six All-Stars in 1934 and establishing a record that still stands, five consecutive strikeouts in an All-Star game.Â
Here's the three-part trivia question:
1)Â Who were his strikeout victims?
2)Â How many were Hall of Famers?
3)Â How many were first ballot Hall of Famers?
Re: Trivia Time -
Phogge - 07-31-2017
Ruth, Gehrig, Sisler, Foxx and Cronin. All HOF, have no idea re ballot but it was much harder then to get in. What SF HS has two HOFers?
Re: Trivia Time -

Galileo:Â DiMaggio and LuisettiÂ
Oh you wanted baseball?Â
Re: Trivia Time -
Phogge - 07-31-2017
Joe D was in my mom's class at Gal. He maybe attended for a week and a half and then quit. I should have written "graduated." So you still don't have it. Same HS had the guy who hit two grand slams in one inning for the O's. And you forgot HOFers Push Em Up Tony Lazzari and OJ who we beat about 57-6 our senior year.
BTW, the great SF high school HOFer and Phogge opponent No Neck Williams passed a bit ago. Played three sports at Galileo and was All City in two. Also was one of the participants in one of the great street fights of all time with one of our ends.

But you didn't so I win.
:P ::)
OK SI with Dan Fouts and Jerry Brown. Top that. :D
So many SF schools have at least one. Washington with Ollie Matson and ??

Take a look at my edited post. The HS is Sacred Heart with Hary Heilman and Cronin. Also Jim Gentile the grand slam guy.
What family style restaurant sponsored Sunday team did Mike Norris pitch for?
Re: Trivia Time -
BobK - 07-31-2017
Back to Hubbell
Al Simmons and Lefty Gomez.Â
Sisler??
Re: Trivia Time -
Phogge - 07-31-2017
Norris pitched for New Pisa. The other two extra inning homers were by Tony Perez and Red Schoendienst.

Damn I was coming to post Red. Give us older folk more time. LOL

Hubbell's record was tied by Fernando Valenzuela in the 1986 All Star game, coincidentally another rare pitcher who used the screwball extensively.
