More BobbbbbbK trivia - Phogge - 08-09-2017

Who was the player who pasted a newspaper on home plate showing that the home umpire that day had blown a call on a play that the player was involved in? Who was the umpire? What immediately transpired?

I have no idea.    However Joe West was suspended yesterday for three days.

Joe West has had a series of scrapes over his 36 years (longest as an active umpire). He was suspended for a game for initiating contact with reliever Jonathan Papelbon (who received a seven game suspension).  He was suspended for three games for calling Adrian Beltre the bigggest complainer in the game.

The ump was Bill Klem. The player was catcher Al Lopez. Klem tossed him. Lopez went on to manage two WS teams, the Indians and the White Sox. Klem has the record for umpiring the most games and the most WS. 1905-1940, died in '51.

Ha ha. Good one Phogge. I just looked up the anecdote and even better was the fact that Lopez pasted it to home plate and covered it with dirt so that Klem didn't see it until he brushed off the plate.
