Re: and for the next installment of football unis - Farm93 - 04-12-2011

Nike must live for sports fashion days like that!  I definitely could see how Nike would use footage from events like that to help inspire high school departments to refresh their look.

In other news, the Men\'s Volleyball team played their Senior Day match in...wait for it...black and cardinal!   If I recall correctly Shoji, the libero, had more of a cardinal and white scheme.

Something ironic about the untraditional libero position wearing the "traditional" color scheme on Senior Day IMHO.

Yup. ALL premier programs are wearing gray - Redrum - 04-12-2011

"From the outset of our discussions with Nike I challenged them to be innovative, unique and to align the look of Cougar Athletics with the premier programs in America," Moos continued. "After seeing the final product, I believe they delivered on all counts."

Funny, when I see gray-on-gray uniforms, I think beer delivery man.

Not to be outdone by the Ducks,  they unleashed the whole pallette of grays:   Battleship gray, dark gray, medium gray,  whatever color gray Mike Price\'s hair turned after he managed to screw himself out of the Alabama head coach\'s job,  mountain mist, fog gray, silver gray,  the gray that says "experience",  eminence gris, Pantone 420 gray, Pantone 421 gray, Pantone 422 gray, Pantone 423 gray, Pantone 424 gray,Pantone 425 gray, Pantone 426 gray, Pantone 427 gray, Pantone 428 gray, Pantone 429 gray,  a foggy day in London town,  charcoal gray,  and the-long-out-of-fashion-but-inspiring German uniform feldgrau and to show their wild side is definitely asserting itself ,  Pantone 430 gray.

Thank goodness for our classic uniforms.   They really look great.

Don\'t forget about the ASU unveiling (with completely new logo) today:

Although I love our classic football uniforms, the men\'s basketball threads could use an update. We look like the Trailblazers, and that\'s no compliment.

Th Trailblazers\' uniforms are great.

And, like the football uniforms, back to the future is by far the best option:

Huh? - CowboyIndian - 04-12-2011

From the Nike article on ASU\'s new unis... To whom has be been speaking, I wonder.

"If there’s one thing that I’ve learned through years of studying college football, it’s that college football fans are eager to embrace departure from tradition ….."

As far as the Nikeblog quote, well, consider the source. He or she has an agenda.

I for the most part like the ASU changes. Effective logos need to be simple, and Sparky was not simple (nor was Donald Duck). I prefer the helmet logo to the main logo because the things dripping from under the pitchfork makes it too busy. One element that I think the designers did a bad job with is the numeral size. Toby\'s little brother looks really dorky with the tiny 52 across his chest. Numbers 7 and 8 look fast with the little numbers on their chest, however. (I\'m totally serious here.) There\'s got to be some size for which the linemen look powerful and the swift skill position players look fast.

The fact that yet another school is offering all blacks says that the all blacks have come close to jumping the shark. They were probably cool when the cool kids were doing it, but now, everyone is. In two years, no one will be wearing black uniforms. It will be similar to the polyester baseball uniforms of the 1970s.
