I haven't seen the game yet, but it looks like was the best Cleveland quarterback.
Quarterback ratings:
Kizer 28.2
Kessler 72.1
Hogan 98.9

Thanks for posting. Definitely pulling for him to earn solid back-up role as next step!Â
I also read this morning that Ty had a good game including a 25 yard run, and Kyle Murphy got a good amount of actions.Â

Unsurpringly, Hogan looks better than the 0-8 starter from last season and the rookie drafted a few months ago. Cleveland should hand Hogan the keys until Kizer is properly seasoned. But no...that would make too much sense.

Unfortunately, Hue Jackson has named Kizer the starting QB as of this a.m. Go figure. In his half of play, he was 6 of 18 for 48 yards and threw an interception.
Hogan was 7 for 13, 82 yards, 3 rushes for 28, positioned the team for the field goal and passed for a TD. He won the game for them!!!! I hope at least he has a shot at the #2 slot.

Hogan making peanuts, Kizer the Great Hope of management. A no brainer for a crappy franchise.

Maybe when the Browns dump him and the 49ers dump Barkley, Hogan will land with the 49ers. One can only hope.

So he throws a TD against third stringers in the 4th quarter of a pre-season game and now he's the best QB in the game? What excuses are we going to make when he goes 0 TDs, 4 Ints against starters.

We'll cross that bridge when we get there. Would like to see him play against starters this preseason.

He deserves a shot for sure. Hopefully he makes the most of it.

I would love to see Hogan succeed, but Kizer was playing against TB's starters and Hogan played one drive against men who aren't even going to be in the NFL this year (rosters are still at 90 at this point.)
The good news is actually that Kizer has shown enough promise that Cleveland is back to its original plan of dumping Osweiler. After the first preseason game there was talk of keeping Osweiler, but assuming that the team indeed follows through on trading/cutting Osweiler we will see Hogan return as the third QB where he can continue to develop.

How much does Osweiler have in guaranteed cash?

Pretty weird that Cleveland is going to (maybe) end up with a QB trio of Kizer, Kessler, and Hogan - all of whom faced off against each other in college regularly.

I'm not terribly fluent in professional athlete contracts, but here you go:
http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/cleveland-browns/brock-osweiler-9867/
Can someone translate the difference between yearly cash and the sum of base+signing+roster? From whence the extra $9mil in yearly cash?
Brock makes $16mil this year.

It's been my understanding that all of Osweiler's $16 million salary this season is fully guaranteed. When he signed, it was a 4-year, $72M deal with about $37M guaranteed, but all of that was frontloaded into the first two years: $21M in 2016 (a $12M signing bonus, a $4M 2016 salary, and a $5M 2016 roster bonus) and this year's $16M salary. His last two years are non-guaranteed.
When he was traded, it
looks like the Texans had to eat a prorated chunk of Osweiler's signing bonus as dead money toward their 2017 cap. Because it was a 4-year deal, I think the Texans counted $3 million of it toward last year's cap and would have done the same for 2017, 2018, and 2019, but by trading him, they had to eat those consequences in one go. Thus, the $9M in dead money on the spotrac link. (Or, at least, that's how I think that works. I'm not super confident that I'm right, so I'm happy to be corrected.)Â
But as it relates to Hogan, if the Browns can't find a trade partner for Osweiler, it's entirely possible that they just cut him and eat the $16 million (what many expected to be the plan when they traded him in the first place, since Cleveland is awash in cap space and can spare it), perhaps keeping Hogan as the 3rd QB. A better idea might be to keep all 4 guys, stashing Hogan on the practice squad, and have Osweiler as the backup, ready to trade him to a team that loses its starter to injury in the early going but whose backup isn't yet ready. But with Kizer being named the starter, Hogan's roster spot would get a lot less tenuous if they could find a home for Osweiler.Â

I'm waiting to hear how the QBs perform in Chicago on Thursday. Is it possible that Kessler might end up being the odd man out?
Re: Hogan Keys Comeback Win -
DC 86 - 08-28-2017
The fact that Osweiler didn't play at all in the third preseason game indicates that Cleveland didn't want to risk him being injured in anticipation of trading him. Teams may be reluctant to trade given the likelihood that Osweiler will be released outright, but it seems reasonable to think that some desperate team will at least be willing to trade a conditional pick to bring him in at virtually no cost. Indianapolis has a horrible QB situation at the moment with Luck injured, for example. Re Kessler he was a third round pick just a year ago and actually played reasonably well under difficult circumstances last year so he won't be the odd man out.

So Cleveland is itching to get Osweiler off the books, naturally, but I can't see anyone taking the bait. I mean the 'Fins just picked up Jay "Smokin' Tough Guy" Cutler, for crying out loud.
Jacksonville and the Jets are probably the two teams with the most pressing QB need. Add the Bills now too, in case Tyrod Taylor's concussion is bad. Plus Minnesota, who is relying on Sam Bradford (glass shoulder) while waiting for Teddy Bridgewater to come back from a bad knee injury. I don't see Osweiler as anything but an insurance policy for any of those teams except the Jets. Josh McCown could be beaten by Osweiler...maybe...or TJ Yates as well if Tyrod sits for a while.
