Tennis - Nicole Gibbs - needle - 08-31-2017

As I type this, Stanford alum Nicole Gibbs is up a set in the U.S. Open against top seed and world No. 1 Karolina Pliskova. Gibbs is unseeded and coming off some injuries this year (currently ranked No. 127), so this would be a tremendous upset if it happens.

Gibbs dropped the 2nd set 3-6 after winning the first 6-2

Disappointing, but still a very good showing by Gibbs. I heard an announcer say the last time she and Pliskova played, Pliskova won 6-0 6-0.
