THERE'S NO NEED TO SHOUT -
2006alum - 09-04-2017
I woke up to half of the latest threads being ALL CAPS SHOUTING. Is there no way to fix this? At a minimum, could they be converted to all lower case? One can change the board settings to ignore user posts, but one cannot ignore thread titles. Maybe I'm in the minority and this doesn't bother anyone else, and if so, then I should go elsewhere for my Cardinal sports fix. But it's reaching the point where I'm losing interest in trying to make out the ordinary discourse interspersed among
all the shouting. Thanks.

I second the motion. All upper case writing makes text difficult to read. It's sort of like reading poetry written in spondaic foot.

I do not appreciate the all upper case posts.

I concur.
Members can just ignore the user by going into their profile section settings, but as mentioned ignoring the user doesnt apply to the thread titles. Also I dont believe that guests can ignore the user, and as we've discussed before recruit and player families may be visiting our board, and it's not a good look to them.
It's ashame because I think that that shouted content is often interesting, but the shouting is getting old, quickly.

The caps posting is really only one user who has been posting since late July, albeit prolifically, yet doesn't appear to have any inclination to modify the behavior.Â
It is what it is and I agree it is making it more difficult to casually read The Cardboard.

Being extremely farsighted I don't need glasses to read O's posts. I'd much rather read content over style which is why I don't usually watch stuff on the Extremely Slow Paying Network.

I can live with it in responses but gawd it's annoying on the front page titles. There must be a hack possible to convert to lower case if >80% of the characters in a title are uppercase. Heck even converting to PascalCase would help if there's a ready-made app.
Modifying content should be done judiciously and will have unintended consequences so I understand a reticence here but preserving high signal-to-noise is in our founding priniples, um? And, well the Cardboard front page has gotten darn noisy.Â
O brings a new voice and new perspective but readability matters.

I would argue this version of a song with the same name is more appropriate-

These are the things we could do without.

The priggishness of this board is makes it less than exciting, but yeah, I'd rather recruit parents see this board than most other boards I have seen, so can't argue with that point.

I'd be disappointed if he modified his style at this point.

It's kind of hard for me to believe recruits (or their parents) read or take all that seriously message boards. If they did, N.D. would never get a star recruit again.

"O brings a new voice" that is increasingly trollish. In just a short time, I've learned to ignore posts that he starts; and generally skip his/her comments on other threads.
btw: I watched the end of the Bruins-A&M game. The TD pass that pulled UCLA to within one TD was a panicked, back-foot lame duck that should've been intercepted. But as they say, Hear about the Aggie who wanted to kiss his girlfriend in a naughty place? Drove her to Waco. Sumlin's team took early advantage of a porous UCLA run defense, then flat ran out of gas and composure.
Whether Rosen is the next Sanchez or Luck will be determined.

You beat me to it. A lot has been made of the ball that went through the A&M players hands for a UCLA TD, but there was also the one you mention. I'd prefer "Shavitagren" warts and all, to the luck that was needed for this comeback to be helped to reality. That play is 20 seconds from where this youtube link picks up:

There are two ways to look at that throw... the one you mention (that it was a back foot lame duck shoulda been intercepted throw), but also, lesser QB's would have taken the sack and never gotten the throw off. Yes, he threw into triple coverage and it took a nice effort by his WR to make the touchdown, but again, a lesser player doesn't even give his receiver a chance.

Of course the result of that throw was fortunate, but although there were three defenders there were two receivers in front of them (I actually think Rosen was throwing to the other receiver and that Theo Howard alertly moved in and caught it instead.)

O's all caps posts reminds me of the FBI agent character Gordon Cole, played by David Lynch, on Twin Peaks.
