Okay, most everyone is predicting a Cardinal win, what are the keys to victory? - cardcrimson - 09-08-2017

They're top 5, we're top 15. They've the best QB since Rosen; ours is recovering from knee surgery. They're at home. We've done well there. What do we need to do to cement the victory?

Besides scoring more points. . . .

Well there are the things we can do, and the things our opponent might do.

SC's defense and offensive line weren't quite gelling yet (or, were in early season form), so if that continues (and my optimistic score prediction assumes this), and if they have penalties, and miss a few assignments, those are all good for Stanford.

But I prefer to focus on what Stanford needs to do rather than hoping the opponent make mistakes or has early season flaws. From last year, many fans were concerned about the new offensive line-quarterback combo, losing Solomon Thomas, and finding a power runner. Plus, as always for every team, staying healthy.

Most of theae areas looked tremendous during the Rice game, and some areas of previous concern may actually become areas of strength. But that was against Rice.

So I think the question, what does Stanford need to do, becomes, how real was the Rice performance?

We find out tonight. Plus, as always, need to stay healthy.

Yeah, I think either team is quite capable of winning this game. I agree it boils down to who has the better day and makes the fewest mistakes.

I will say, from a personal standpoint, that this is the first time in a long time I've gone into a Stanford U$C game worrying about something more than the game (Hurricane Irma).

I think a key to victory will be an effective passing game in the first few possessions of the game, wrong-footing SC and opening up subsequent opportunities for the running game.  Further, this would hopefully result in an early Stanford lead making SC more one-dimensional, making life easier for the defense.

I prefer two pick-6 on consecutive plays. Less messy, and has a longer-lasting effect.

1.  Execute personal assignments.  OL needs to gel, in particular.
2.  Front seven needs to put pressure on Darnold and contain their RBs.  (not really worried about their WRs against our all-star DBs).
3.  Imaginative play calling.
4.  Win battle of special teams.  U$C's field goal kickers are terrible, btw.
5.  No turnovers, penalties, injuries.
6.  Keep your heads.  You can do this.

1. Stuff the run, let the DBs blanket the field. 

Did anyone see the Twitter post where airport security picked the DBs to search?  The post read something like "Don't know why they picked the DBs to search, we're air traffic control."

What a unit nickname!  Air Traffic Control :)

2. Let the Double-Double feast happen.  Bryce Love, Scarlett, Speights off-tackle left, right, center for 400 yds combined :)

Go see a Free cover band in your local pub.  It worked for me vis a vis Rice.
