We Gave Up 9 Yds/Play and That Says It All Without Unnecessary Elaboration - AncientCityIndian - 09-09-2017
There is no other story of significance unless we want to talk about our OL breakdowns on the right side and our reluctance to attempt to stretch the field with a passing attack to keep an opponent from stuffing the box. Old habits die hard.

I think you hit the big points, but I think we need to look behind why we gave up 9 ypp:
- Front 7 got little pressure on Darnold. I don't care how good your DBs are, if you give a top-notch QB 4 seconds or more he will find an open receiver
- Front 7 was god-awful against the run, especially ILBs who other than Palma are undersized. Alfieri was supposed to be some kind of savior here and I don't think I saw him more than 15-20 snaps. I know he's "still learning the position" but given how often the guys getting more snaps were out of position or easily moved from their position I think he needs to be thrown in there. He couldn't be much worse
I can't remember the last time Stanford was so dominated in the trenches on both sides of the ball. Too early to tell if U$C is really that good or if we just aren't very good there, but if the play doesn't improve on the front lines this is an 8-4 team at best
To Keep Perspective, We Gained Just UNDER 9 Yards Per Play vs. Rice - AncientCityIndian - 09-10-2017
USC`s offense was better against our defense than our offense was against Rice. That is humbling. I do not know if that is a credit to USC`s O or a diss of our own D. Some of both, I would surmise.
