UC apparently has a coach and maybe a defense. Bowers has a quick release. Laird is perhaps the Walk-on of the decade.

Yup. Cal has become legit in a hurry. I miss Sonny Dykes.

I agree. Ca.l is 3-0, and just gave an SEC opponent their first loss by making halftime adjustments to come from down 16-7 to score 20 unanswered and holding Ole Miss to zero second half points.

Or... Chryst is worse than Bowers.
Throw out the Rice game, Keller Chryst, ranks LAST in Pac-12 QBs. Just 52% complete, and 7yds per Attempt.
These stats INCLUDE the RICE game.

Why would you throw out the Rice game?  Do you throw out the Weber State game for Bowers?  Do you throw out all three games by Browning? Every QB on that list has played at least one cupcake, and many (most) have played multiple cupcakes.
Chryst's effectiveness was good against Rice, poor against USC and awful against San Diego State. If he continues to perform as he did against SDSU, we are in big trouble. Even if he performs as he did against USC, that probably won't get it done against most teams (since 2014, we are 7-8 when our QB's throw below a PER of 128, which is what Chryst threw against USC [this includes both the USC and SDSU games]). Of course in some of those years, we had pretty good defenses or an all-everything running back that could bail us out of a bad QB performance. We may not have a defense of that caliber this year, so that puts more pressure on our QB to be at least better than Chryst was against USC.
FWIW, the median PER among FBS teams last year was 135 (LSU). I think we'll need to be at least at that level to compete.

Don't worry. He's only in his third year. As soon as he masters the playbook, his standing will improve. ::)

I'm more hoping he masters quick decision-making. He needs to know when and how to bail out of the play when things go south.
