Rosen's a punk - Red State - 09-24-2017

While the entire UCLA team went to midfield to shake hands with Stanford players after the game, Rosen just ran off the field in a show of unsportsmanlike behavior. Bye, bye Rosen! We never knew you...fortunately. Good call, Shaw.

Well, if we're aware of all the buzz as to why Stanford didn't offer him, you can bet he is even closer to it. So of course he's not gonna be nice-nice about it. I'm sure he takes the whole thing personally. None of us should.

Right now he's just hoping Indy doesn't trade Luck for another running back and draft him as a replacement.

Re: Rosen's a punk - Red State - 09-24-2017

Then maybe he shouldn't shake hands with Shaw, even though, according to Shaw, the two have a good relationship and see each other a few times during the year. Not shaking hands with the Stanford players??? That's a punk!

Are we all really sure Rosen will go? If he is for sure early first round, yes. But will he be if this year goes down the drain at UCLA? I don't know. Goff got a pass on C.al not winning, but will Rosen?

I think so. Once the NFL inducts you into the "prototypical QB club" it takes a lot for them to yank you out. Now, whether Rosen will be a top 5 pick (or whatever), different question. But hard for me to believe he won't be a first rounder. (and if he lasts past the first round the Niners should absolutely take a shot at him.)

Given what Rosen has said regarding college football and academics, I would doubt he wants to stick around at school.

True, but there are lost of $ difference between being a number 5 pick and a number 30 pick. That may matter to him. Also, if he really has had trouble scheduling classes, as he asserts, it gives him another year to do it :).

Another thing to consider is that Mora will likely be gone and he will be playing for a new coach.

Good question, and one I was considering during last night's game.
More than any physical aspect of his QB skills,  NFL coaches (and team owners) may be leery of Rosen's personality and attitude.
That said, due to the NFL's collective bargaining agreement,  rookie contracts are a relative bargain. For this reason NFL franchises are now willing to risk a high first round pick, especially for a QB.

And he could view that as either a plus or a minus, depending on who it is. UCLA might be just crazy enough to let him have big input on who that will be, if they do make a change.

Re: Rosen's a punk - needle - 09-24-2017

Rosen has met Shaw after games in the past (well, at least once) and been very gracious following defeats.

The sideline camera shots of him last night imo showed a guy who knows he plays for a team with a defense so bad that this season--and thus his college career--will end without anything close to a championship run or even a top 25 finish. It wasn't completely a vintage #PartyInTheBackfield performance, but Rosen's jersey showed a guy who had been taken to the ground plenty. That will only continue as teams follow the same game plan defensively against UCLA's one-dimensional offense.

Rosen may not resent Stanford's lack of a scholarship offer, but he has to be asking himself what could have been.

Re: Rosen's a punk - JohnR34231 - 09-24-2017

Interesting because in the last two years he's walked out and had what appeared to be a very cordial interaction with Shaw. I guess he was particularly upset this time because he felt this was his last chance to show Stanford and Shaw what a big mistake was made by not recruiting him.

Re: Rosen's a punk - cardcrimson - 09-24-2017

Multiple times this year, cameras have caught him moping alone on the bench. Interacts with the team when things are rosy, not so much when things aren't. Regardless, most draft experts have him going in the top ten.

Re: Rosen's a punk - SamAtoms1980 - 09-24-2017

Rosen threw quite a few heater fastballs during the game.  Most of these bounced off his receiver's hands.

johnnyo53 was right.  We should have offered a scholarship to Rosen ---- to pitch for our baseball team.

I sometimes feel like posters’ comments about Rosen say more about the posters than about Rosen.

Definitely this was the case after last year's game.

Re: Rosen's a punk - fullmetal - 09-24-2017

He's a kid, a great player stuck on a moribund team that probably is a little fractured in their support of him (certainly the on-field "support" isn't there).  He wasn't a classy loser last night, but after getting beat to bits by the Stanford pass rush and getting 58 pts hung on his team by a left-for-dead offense...yeah I'd say I understand why Rosen no-showed.  He's got some growing up to do, and the NFL will set him straight.  Stanford comes away with the win and should be gracious winners in allowing the losers to hide their pain.

spot on, fm

Re: Rosen's a punk - Red State - 09-24-2017

My hat's off to all the UCLA players who showed proper sportsmanship after the game. I'm sure a lot of them were hurting too, but were gracious in defeat. Obviously, Rosen sees himself as separate from his teammates...something Shaw (and others) sensed about him while he was being recruited.
