The players know - lex24 - 09-25-2017

One thing that was so noticeable Saturday was the players reaction to Costello. Particularly after he scored that running touchdown. They mobbed him.  The energy left he provided was obvious. Which suggests to me the players now who should be starting.

I'm not on the sidelines anymore. But their reactions generally tell a story. I remember quite vividly McCaffrey's first play as a cardinal. Not his first touch, his first play. It was on the kick off team. He raced down the field and blew up the wedge. The sidelines went nuts and I remember players hollering something along the lines of "way to go superstar". At the time I wondered if they were being sarcastic. I now of course now that was not the case. They simply knew how special  he was.

I may be reading too much into this – but I think the players told us loud and clear who they believe should be leading this team.

Not so sure. They are super excited by Costello and happy for him and the team but they voted Chryst captain so support of Costello doesn't necessarily mean that they don't support Costello.

Well, on the other hand, they also voted Alameen Murphy captain. Murphy, of course, is a hard worker and a solid backup -- but I would assume none of the players thinks Murphy is of the caliber of Meeks and Holder. It may be the Chryst captaincy is more an expression of respect than acclamation.

Players know.  Wasn't Luck dubbed "The Truth" his freshman year?
