Jovan Swann needs to play more - OutsiderFan - 10-08-2017

Don't know about others, but it sure seems to me Swann needs to play more, and that he's better than Cotton.  Specifically, he gets off blocks quickly and is faster.  He's not Solomon Thomas, but he seems to be in that mold.

He and Okereke were the defenders who really stood out to me when watching the game. Doesn't mean other guys weren't good on defense, but I thought these two deserved special mention.

Agree that Swann had an excellent game. By my eye he's been progressing every game, which is a very good sign.

I personally see a bit of Ben Gardner in him. We'll see how he develops, but at a minimum the added depth on the line is invaluable.

Good timing for this, because with Phillips out for 1H of Oregon he HAS to play a lot more.

Yeah, Swann had a great game yesterday and was constantly in the Utah backfield.  It was nice to see a defensive lineman not named Harrison Phillips in on many plays.  As others have mentioned, I would expect him to start next week in place of Phillips who will be out the first half for the targeting.

Overall a great game for the pass rush, Swann, cotton, Phillips, okereke, and Kalambayi all got great pressure at various points. Now we just need to focus on breaking down for the tackle and not letting the QB escape . . .

With Phillips and PK out for the first half, it is crucial that we control the ball.  Shaw needs to tell Love to just fall down (in bounds) after making the first down line.  His long runs are just killing our time of possession.  ::)
