OT: The Killers - BostonCard - 10-10-2017

Not sure if it was the 2015 music thread, but I seem to recall somebody was pushing one of their favorite songs from the Killers.  Well, they have a new album...

"The Man" is awful.  Hopefully there are some better songs on it.

Re: OT: The Killers - Mick - 10-10-2017

I've always liked their group.  I'll check out the new album.

The remix of The Man is better, but sad to report that that's better than the rest of the album (only listened once).

A couple tracks from Brandon Flowers's last album are as good as the better Killers songs, and much better than his first solo effort.

I recently had this epiphany that Arcade Fire, The Killers, and The Black Keys are the 3 biggest and best active rock bands of the 2000s, meaning their first commercial release (single, EP, or LP came out after Dec 31, 1999 as measured on a 2 x 2 matrix with commercial success on one dimension and critical success on the other dimension.  I recently saw Arcade Fire (who I would contend is the biggest and best of those 3 though I personally like The Killers more).  Great band especially live, but they could not fill half an arena.  Tells you something about the state of rock music.

Re: OT: The Killers - Hulk01 - 10-10-2017

I posted about The Killers.  I love their best stuff.

My youngest son, a big fan, saw them at Austin City Limits Sunday.  But I haven't gotten the review yet.  Might not have been easy for them, as the group is from Las Vegas.  (And contrary to the impression that may have given you, their leader and lead singer, Brandon Flowers, is a Mormon.

Thanks for the post.....

Re: OT: The Killers - Hank 91 - 10-10-2017

I really loved the first Killers album, but never really got around to listening to any of their stuff after that. I do remember hearing their latest single on the radio a few times recently but not being impressed.

So is the front man for Arcade Fire, making the two biggest front men of the 2000s, Latter Day Saints.

Check out "Human".  Great track - on par with the best stuff on Hot Fuss.

Re: OT: The Killers - fullmetal - 10-14-2017

My friends saw The Killers at ACL and then caught their secret show at The Continental Club afterward.  I saw some of their Instagrammed videos--it looked and sounded amazing.

Re: OT: The Killers - Bruce Wang - 10-17-2017

I take back what I said.  There's a track on their new album that's much better than The Man.  The subject is an interesting one.

I believe the lead singer and lead guitarist of Imagine Dragons are also LDS.

Confirmed.  So the Killers, Arcade Fire, and Imagine Dragons (the Black Keys and Linkin Park are defunct) are the three biggest active rock bands from the 2000s (defined as first commercial release after Dec 31, 1999).  All three fronted by Latter Day Saints.  Perhaps the Utah Jazz should rename themselves the Rockers and let New Orleans have that name back.

The Black Keys are not defunct

They are on hiatus.  I love them, but given how good Dan Auerbach's solo album and his Arcs project are, I don't see them getting back together.
