But, really, why did Costello not play? -
Langdude - 10-31-2017
Been thinking about this, and I really can't make sense of it. Even in the Oregon game, they both played, and Chryst didn't look nearly as bad. I really would like one of you Cardboarders who has inside access to find out because it's been bugging me. Or will Shaw reveal at the presser?
As far as I can tell, the options are:
1) He trusted that Chryst was the better option
2) Costello was being disciplined (though if that was the case, why was Costello dressed?)
3) He was clairvoyant and knew that Chryst would complete that fourth-down pass to Kaden (notice reference by first name)
4) He wanted to give Chryst A LOT of practice on that endzone fade play
5) He's stubborn (I realize this is compatible with #1)
Anyway, I would love to hear what transpired in those headset conversations with Bloomgren...

What makes you think one can't be disciplined during the game. That's my first guess. And just a guess

Yes. I suppose that is a possibility I hadn't considered! I wonder what one would have to do to be disciplined in-game like that. Maybe pester Shaw to put him in? Interesting idea, Bob...

Is it possible Costello had an undisclosed injury or illness?

I'd considered that, but, if so, why dress him? Perhaps he was injured or sick and dressed only in case of emergency? Interesting possibility...
So many smart people here!

Maybe he tweaked something in warm-ups.

If so, why did he continue to stay warm and throw balls on the sideline?

Maybe it was something he was "trying to work through" and never got to the point where he could go in. Just guessing.

That's the real question isn't it: why? The how and the who is just scenery for the public. Chryst, Costello, Mills, Shaw, keeps 'em guessing like some kind of parlor game, prevents 'em from asking the most important question: why? Why was the game close? Who benefited? Who has the power to cover it up? Who?

Omg, nice Dan Rather reference there.

E. Howard Hunt was firing from the manhole. Frank the Cuban was waiting in a getaway Caddie parked just off Dealey Plaza. McCord waiting at Love Field with a fueled up Cessna. Nixon and Bebe playing with each other in Viscaya. Successful coup as Texas oil money is channeled into the Nixon Cali gubernatorial fund.

It seems many believe in the existence of a second, backup QB, somewhere along the grassy sideline.

Dan is 86 today, still working. Will you be riding the range up there in God's country at 86? What do you hear of my cousin?

Thought "back and to the left" was a Costner statement in a JFK conspiracy movie, no?Â
He wasn't portraying Dan Rather in that flick, was he?

He was playing the New Orleans DA.
