Thought it worthy of its own thread instead of the speculative.

If this kind of long-awaited news isn't worthy of its own thread, then I don't know what is!
Thank you! There's hope for us yet...

Also, whether Chryst would play at all merited a no comment.

Stunned.

KJ has many talents, and the one that I think will help the most vs Washington State and distinguishes him from KC is his mobility and speed. He is a very credible threat to keep the ball and do some damage on zone reads. Hogan had a field day running the ball vs the Cougars a couple of years ago when nothing else was working well.

Well, not to retread old debates but... KC definitely had mobility and speed. Maybe not Luck or Cam Newton level, but definitely a plus athlete for a college QB.* He just was inconsistent about when he chose to utilize it.
*(e.g., FWIW, Chryst had a 98 SPARQ rating in high school:

Makes a lot of sense. I am a bit surprised, but I am pleased. As others have said, running the ball agsinst WSU was big 2 years ago. Being able to do that can't hurt.

Finally. We have a chance to win the games on our schedule.

And the weather forecast currently is not that bad. High 30s. Partly cloudy. Low winds. Only 20% chance of rain/snow
But its in a window. Snow Friday night and Sun. So who knows.

Because somehow we had no chance to win the 6 games on the schedule we already won (including 4 wins with Chryst as the main QB).

PS, I agree with the decision to Start Costello but Im on a lonely crusade against hot-take-ism.

I think this is one piece of the puzzle we must put together to get a win in Pullman. Many other pieces will need to come into place.Â
I am glad we have two capable QBs that are ready to play. Let's hope KJ can lead our O to the end zone frequently.

So he apparently was not ready to play at all against a garbage Oregon State team, but a week later he is ready to start up at the Palouse in a game with major Pac-12/NY6 ramifications? I've been pounding the table for him, so I'm excited. But it's interesting timing by Shaw.

well, my conspiracy theory is that Costello was being held out as part of the "sandbagging" operation,* with the plan being to re-introduce him for WSU as an element of surprise. Chryst's struggles forced the issue.
*(I know, the precise term "sandbagging" raises some objections. But I think, to a certain degree, coaches hold back stuff against bad opponents.)

I probably should have added "relative" in there somewhere. I don't have any stats to back this up, but it seems to me based on the wildly subjective eye test that KC has lost a step, burst or some general mobility since his knee injury. Not to say that he won't eventually be back to the way he was, but it's been less than year than he was injured in the Sun Bowl.

We played against easy teams that didn't expose Chryst but now we have to play hard teams like Notre Dame, UW, WSU plus a spooky Cal team.

Yeah, it's certainly possible. But, FWIW, against Oregon State, he was able to escape the pocket at times. I simply believe Chryst just doesn't make consistently good decisions. If you put Kevin Hogan's brain in Chryst's body you'd have a first-round QB.
